ECU for 2017-2019 V-Strom 650
« on: October 05, 2019, 10:44:33 »
Hello, got a 2019 V-Strom 650 fitted with an A2 ECU 35kw. Now need a full power ECU. Any 17 Reg onwards ECU will fit. Long story of woe involved with this. Regards rorymagory

The 2019 650 has chipped keys you will need more than an ECU.

Yes kwackboy, I checked out a remap which doesn’t affect the keys which is probably the way to go. Just have to post ecu and they sort it on the bench. I’m not bothered about a supercharged bike that does 300mile an hour and 800mpg,just taking off the restriction will do me.(wonder if they can change it into a F800gs)

Hi Rory,

I think Kwackboy was more trying to warn you about other implications that can occur, for example if the system acts like a car, then you could not simply swap ECUs due to things like the immobilizer. I work with prototype vehicles and often we can not just swap ECUs due to information being written to different modules that do cross checks.

I'm not sure how the bike system works, but definitely worth a call to a dealer maybe before shelling out for an ECU.

Cheers
Josh

Thanks for that info jab,I spoke to bds performance today who reckon they can do it, there was a problem and they had to check with woolich but apparently it’s straightforward for them.(hopefully) the problem was some bikes are restricted by ecu and air box and the Strom is just with the ecu, so that’s easy peasy.

I’ve been talking to dealers for about six weeks and get a different story every time. At first they were just going to swap ecu’s just charge for fitting, then I had to order one £790 and when they got the old one back they’d give me my money back. So I ordered it and a week later I phoned up and it never arrived.dealer said they’d been given wrong information.latest is pay £790 for ecu (non refundable) plus a surcharge of £1000 which is refundable when they receive the old ecu. F***in nightmare. Went on for ages and different story every time  Suzuki rep must be a total wanker.

Well that’s it job done. sent it off to bds performance on Monday back on wednesday, put it back started first time. Was relieved of £200,glad its now sorted  I’ve got 400 miles on the clock now so it’s back to Suzuki soon for its 600 mile  £145 service. Begrudge using them for all the shite I’ve had off them, but needs must.this is my third vstrom but at the moment I’m pissed off with the bike and regretting buying it. Regards rory

Not that you'll need another A2 ECU, but anyone buying a new restricted bike should negotiate the return to standard power as part of their deal. (It used to be so much simpler when you didn't have to swap ECUs to restrict them, and could restrict any bike to 33bhp)

Hope you start enjoying the bike now it's at full power  :thumb:
