Hello from Reading
« on: December 29, 2023, 12:22:55 »
New forum member here, and relatively new owner of a V-Strom 650XT (2021) 👋.

Great to meet you all. I live in the Reading area. I passed my A licence in November but it was 34 years in the making. Better late than never! I am planning to do some touring with friends in Wales/Scotland in the Spring, and am already booked on a 6 day tour in southern Spain in September.

I'm loving the V-Strom. I bought it second hand from a dealer in South Wales with just 800 miles on the clock.

There was a bit of confusion on my part as the dealer didn't specify it was an XT version although it clearly is. The V5 document states that it is a "DL650 X AM1" (type WC70, variant: 1, version: EURO 5 / 1). I couldn't find anything meaningful about "DL650 X AM1" online so maybe someone more knowledgeable here can advise? Why isn't it registered as an XT? I did a Car Vertical check on it using the VIN and it checked out OK.

I suspect the X stands for XT. But I can't confirm.
Enjoy.

Yes, the XT means 'extremely tarnished'

M then number refers to the year of manufacture since 2020, so yours will be a 2021. Previous years were L 0-9  for 2010-2019 and K 0-9 was 2000-2009.

:welcome:   To me, the XT basically translates to extra work due to spoke wheels that quickly tarnish, if not cared for.   lol

That's useful to know. Thanks  :ty:

Yep I might come to regret it. I saw this post. https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=42880.0. Live and learn. The wheels do look nice though.

:welcani: Don't worry about the wheels unless you have a problem with them and let's face it, they do look  good. You may never want to clean the tarnish off anyway, patina and all that. Welcome.
