Quick local NYM ride

Lovely day so quick spin.

Start of a local lane - nice new signs from Parks showing their social inclusion agenda...carriage driving also now acceptable here

Into Helmsley for the required ice cream at Ryemoors, then round Bransdale - Beaut!

Up and on to Rudland Rigg via a questionable approach for the Wee (2 up!)

It never looks as gnarly in a photo but my heart rate was raised a couple of times

I miss a 21" front end, makes quite a difference, but the slow running of the Wee is brilliant for gently Bentley

Rudland Rigg is out longest green lane - and lets hope it stays that way

Handy sign...but not entirely factual...almost seems landowner bias

Its a legal road (though true, tis also a track but important its status is represented)

SSSI is a misnomer surely...grouse moor...yes unique thanks to man, but not so special for the local raptors. Shouldn't tar all with same brush, but NY has worst record of raptor extermination in UK - I'm sure pure chance and nothing to do with 'game' bird moorland.

When I was younger there were people who used this route to get to Teesside side by landrover if weather was dodgy on the tarmc a roads

Luckily no more off road or the contents of pannier may have been a disaster later!

Right turn for Bell End  but not before passing Fat Betty...and no...it's behind, that's Bev and the Wee foreground.

Cracking ride round, lovely day for it. First Wee ride of year  :lala:

Fantastic pictures of what looks like a fantastic day out  :thumb:

I've passed that entrance for Rutland Rigg a few times and always wondered if you could go down there - I might have to give it a try some time  :)

Its quite rough...as in bumpy, few rocky bits but OK and some sandy patches but OK, steady away and all fine. Only the far end is difficult....though I haven't been to the north end in a few years so maybe better or atrocious. With care its entirely doable for miles and miles, great scenery each way to, Bransdale then Farndale.

After seeing your pictures I watched a YouTube of someone doing it on a Tiger 800. He said there was an easy route to the left at the fork, though he went straight on and down 'the steps' (walked it). No chance would I fancy that on the Glee... maybe I should use the mountain bike first to see if I fancy it  :shy:

Good idea! There isn't the clearance on the Wee for the steps.

Not been that far for a few years, changes all time dependent on use (abuse)

That said, I've seen very accomplished riders going up on  on back wheel...of a GS 1150 Adventurer - different league to my abilities  :thumb:

You can ride quite a few miles and then turn around - at say likes of Blowith Crossing.  But again, I haven't been that far for a while, just assume all OK. Our approach from Bransdale was a little Donkey clenching to say the least a couple of times...and Bev had to walk a few sections (wish I'd had choice  :icon_wink:)

My parents lived at Bransdale Lodge for a while but I only visited in the car. Looks like a return on the bike would be good.

Now's a good time as they have repaired the road..was in terrible state for years, lot of subsidence, was closed for months - and on exploration you could see why, but not now.

Absolute beautiful round - all tarmac (well, bituminous, tarmacadam is a hazardous material now) and some really nice villages nearby such as Pockley...a sudden surprise of thatched buildings

And some long off road trails too
