Another buffeting Q
« on: August 31, 2015, 18:20:52 »
I know there are a few post with regards to the buffeting, but couldn't find a answer, if indeed there is one, and before I spend any more..
I'm 5'10 and have a high seat on the K7 GT Vee with a sports screen fitted on the "secret" lowest setting also has Tuono mirrors. With this set up I experience no buffeting issues whatsoever but experience wind blast, which I can put up with on a Sunday blast, but I also use the bike for my commute to work which is mostly motorway.
I bought a MRA touring screen from a member on this site which cured the wind blast but no matter what position the screen or spoiler is in I get the dreaded buffeting. I read that going back to OEM mirrors could help, but I haven't tried them with the MRA.

The way I see it is:
1. Stick with the sports screen an live with the wind blast which compared to the buffeting I can put up with I suppose.
2. MRA screen, Tuono mirrors, don't think I could bear the buffeting
3. MRA screen, Tuono mirrors and buy extenders
4. MRA screen, OEM mirrors with or without extenders
5. Sell it and buy a Triumph Tiger 1200

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

I like the Madstad bracket for large touring screens. People are different sizes. The Madstad allows quick changes to screen height and rake angle for the best option for each rider. Little sport screens look stupid on it but don't need it.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Thanks Greywolf, something I hadn't considered, but do I want to spend another £84 on a maybe or are they really as good as the reports say?

Many people, including me, think they are well worth the money.

After a bit more searching on the site I came across the tap washer method. Worth a try so I added about 7mm of washers between screen and bracket this afternoon before leaving work  and what a difference. No buffering and almost no wind. Still think the madstad is the way to go but for now I'm happy with the result.
