Jumped up petrol stations .... :-/
« on: January 24, 2020, 17:50:25 »
Had an row with a petrol station attendant this eve in a garage I've been going to for years (Morrisons).
Apparently being served petrol with a helmet on is against the law but wearing a burka is perfectly fine ....  :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:

When I asked the difference the idiot had no answer but still refused to serve me petrol.

Who's for making riding bikes a religion ....?

We'd get more rights ..  :stirpot: :stirpot:

I'm fairly certain there's no law which says it's illegal to be served petrol whilst wearing a helmet...

Last time that happened to me I went elsewhere and have never been back (about 4 years ago) as despite lifting the flip-up helmet up they still insisted I had to take the whole thing off

Riding bikes is like ethical veganism...

Should this be in the moaning old git thread?
Absolute bollocks. Not against the law. Unfortunately if it is against Moron's Morrisons rules, there is not a lot we can do except vote with our feet. Or tyres.
I have, in the past, asked for a complaints dept address and asked why they discriminate. They write back with such crap as age identification, drive away crime, attacks on staff, and even that we need to be able to hear safety announcements on the pa system. When I reply asking about burkas, big floppy hats, deaf people, and how many robberies are committed by motorcyclists, they reply with "its the rules"
Tossers.

Been there, used that argument. The same situation as well at our village filling station.

I use supermarkets now with pay at the pump, always cheaper and zero hassles.

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

The problem with Morrisons is they have a high staff turnover and over the last year or so the staff knew me (or my helmet ) so I didn't have any issues.

Now they've got new staff and there all fekin 🔔🔚s

One day I'm going to ride in wearing a burka over my helmet and see if I get served ...  lol

If you insist on old school paying inside take your fekkin lid off.
Spare a thought for the cashier, we don't want minimum wage slaves having a heart attack thinking the next helmet wearer could be the one who stabs them for the sake of 40 ciggies.
(Obviously keep your lid on if you are especially ugly and prevent said heart attack).
Or shop elsewhere. Cashier don't give a feck, and big oil won't go bust...

One of our local nutters rode his Honda Cub whilst wearing a turban. The leg shields were adorned with the inscription "Sikh and ye shall not be fined"
Jonathan Jake Mangelwurzel. Aka Lockwood Singh. Aka T. H. E. Occupier, seeing as that was what most of his mail was addressed to. As mentioned, a nutter.

But how many cig thieves actually wear helmets and turn up on bikes? We can not be held responsible for a misconception that lid=crim.

If paying inside is old school why aren't 80% of the pumps card only ..?

As for taking my fekkin lid off ..... I don't think so ..

Personally I find it difficult to leave my helmet on when doing anything but riding the 'bike so I automatically take it off before starting to fill up. I can't even leave it on when I get off the 'bike to talk to anyone for a minute or two! I feel like them clackwanker 'celebrities' who wear their sunglasses indoors if I don't.
Even when Deb is with me & will go into pay I still take my helmet off to fill up.....maybe it's just me but personally I think it's the right thing to do.
I've got no argument as to why you can't wear your helmet if you choose to when filling up while those with a burka can.

Its chucking it down and I've been on the road for an hour. I stop for petrol. Take off gloves and remove glasses to put them inside my wet jacket. I take off my helmet and wonder where I can put it so that water will not soak up the inside of the lining. I hook it over my arm although wet from my jacket will drip into it. I fill up and go into the kiosk to pay. I need two hands to dig out my wallet and then pull out my debit card.... where do I put my helmet?
No room on the counter, the floor is as wet as the street. So it has to be on the sweets display. bloke behind the counter starts yelling at me and so I smile and remove my ear plugs putting them slowly into their little pouch. Feigning more deafness than  I already suffer I shove my card into the reader. Short of growing another arm I don't see what else I can do.
These tossers who want me to take my helmet off for safety reasons then have to explain to my what they are going to do to treat the diesel that has been spilt all around the forecourt. I ask for their name and the name of their manager so I can report the slip hazzard to the local authorities and the local environmental health department.  Pull out phone and take a photo of said tosser sitting all smug behind his glass screen.  ###

I'm going to buy a burka, put it on, then the helmet over the top.

When they ask me to remove the helmet...  lol

A few times I've told them "feck off it's cold and my helmet is warm!" Then gave them some lip when I went in to pay.
I try not to use morrisons... the gsx and Vara don't like their fuel but they are the closest to home and work

Diver, it's been done. I saw a video of a chap being told to remove his lid at the pumps, and he had a niqab underneath. Been trawling Youtube and Facebook, but can't find it now. He did it in a bank as well, I think.

You are all looking at it wrong.

Its all to do with religion whereas motorcycling is deemed as a hobby.

If we start a religion called "Motorcycleism" and register it, with the requirement being a helmet is worn at all times, then there would be no problem at all. I believe there are more than sufficient members to support it as a official religion.

I do remember when I filled up (with the helmet on), went in to pay (with helmet) and the cashier asked me to remove it. I asked why and she said that what if I run off without paying.

I said I am in front of her, being served by her, with my card in my hand. Why would I subject myself to this exercise if I were to feck off without paying. That shut her up.

On the last census, Me and SWMBO put under Religion: BIKER.

If we get 10,000 people to do the same it becomes an acknowledged religion in the UK. It is in Australia.

On a serious note why do you have pay at the till? Supermarkets here have either a pay/drive through kiosk when leaving or straight pay at the pump during the day and 24/24. Private and garage forecourts are served by staff.

Wouldn't that solve everyone's problem (or is that too simple)?
So how's it going so far then?
