 :eusa-doh: Mr Nick

Meanwhile back in Doncaster I opened the garage door with the intention of washing the Nail after last weekends ride.

Washing wouldn't have worked it needs a shave. ###

I'll do it another day if there's anything left.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Well, somebody needs to invest in a ratchet: I've undone far too many bolts so far that I removed without needing anything more than a socket on an extension. No major components yet, but not very reassuring..

Also found that the airbox to rear carb boot wasn't connected to the airbox, leaving a nice gap to draw air in.

When I was looking over the bike before parting with cash, I didn't spot that the left fairing had a split around the indicator where it looks like it landed on that side & the indicator took the weight. Not massive, but I hadn't intended painting the bodywork this time. Going to see if I can turn anything up.

It's not too bad, but I managed to find another panel in decent nick for far less than any repair I'd have to consider on it.

Spent a wee while out stripping parts today since we're snowed in here. Garage is reasonably warm since I insulated the roof the other year, and the new main door is totally windproof. I do have one little infra-red heater beside me since it's a few degrees below.

Main loom almost out, everything forward of the bars is off & reading the workshop manual to check where I should be going with it all.

Engine is now out, but the front header is still attached as there is nothing left you could call a nut on either stud - just a round sleeve on them... Going to have to look at something a bit more extreme to get them off I reckon.

Cutting disc and a chisel sorted the Nail. :thumb:

Picked these up this morning:
https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-bolt-nut-remover-set-6-pieces/6083d?_requestid=323278

Exhaust is now off, but one of the studs broke. There's about 10mm left outside the head so I've got something to work with, but that extractor set doesn't go small enough, and my MAPP torch started feeling the cold after getting the other stud out, so something for another day.

Ah bollocks!  ### ###

I bought an impact stud extractor today and set about the stud. Plenty heat applied & it had been left soaking in penetrating oil overnight. Still didn't help as the damn stud sheared a couple of mm below the surface. The rest of the afternoon was spent taking that head off to take it to an engineering place - not even going to attempt to do any more myself: I've made it bad enough already.... :angry-banghead:

Aye, just a bit.

Found a proper old school engineering firm and one of the chaps stays in the next village so I'm dropping the head off to him tomorrow night. Need to order a couple of studs & nuts and a few more gaskets & seals: o-rings for the coolant inlets, gasket for timing chain tensioner, exhaust gasket, water pump o-ring, clutch outer cover o-ring so far.

Another buggeration is that the side fairing that arrived today is in decent nick, but it's been painted a different shade.... I'll try it on when the bike's back together & see how bad it looks - might get away with it on a dark night with a potential buyer looking the other way!  :shy:

Oh! look here we are back in Traitors corner. The Wee-Strom has gone. Hello it's a TDM. With a 270 crank it fires like a V engine or so they say.

That looks tidy Brockett, welcome to the darkest corner. I had a TDM before the Nail, brilliant underrated 'bikes.

Enjoy :thumb: :thumb:

Enjoy Brockett, it looks like new! It's not really dark here, it's just the Yorkshire ones are too tight to turn the light on...

Nice colour, too. I nearly bought a "tedium" before I got the glee. It was visiting this forum and the TDM one that decided it for me.

The dark outline of a bike next to my bike is a shadow. This is the effect of and object between the SUN and the ground. Just in case you were all wondering what it is.

Yes Rusty only one other Forum (VTR) is as easy to use and populated with such nice and  knowledgeable folk. No other UK forum comes close.

I don't get the same effect with a Mirror: does it not work with other tabloids??

So many bikes, so little time and there's no pockets in a shroud.
