I don't know what the worst case would be, I'm sure others can clarify. I had spent hours tuning the engine bars, wheel and chain alignment, throttle body balance... In the end the engine thrust mounts (especially the rear lower one) made the biggest improvement in reducing the vibes. After the garage had a go, they made it even better!

@ Rusty.

Not a great amount of movement, just extra vibration if they are loose which puts extra stresses on the mounts/frame.

Chief trouble maker 🙂

Well I did buy a tool for doing something with one of the frame sockets a while ago but forget which one it was... might as well investigate what it's for  :)

TLP, keep your welding skills on standby...

Nothing, nowt done too many miles. Done 850 before first service but have managed to get it in Powerglide at Stoke on Friday. Having a nice new V Strom 1000 as a lender so looking forwards to see the difference in both models. Will give an update on Friday. :auto-dirtbike:

Fitted some reflective tape and some small round lights to the panniers. New clutch & brake levers, heated grips and a camera mount on the left crash bar and a couple of stickers :fix: :lala:

I removed the fourth sparkplug from the rear cylinder. All it took was a few hours of penetrating oil (I sprayed it with WD40 the other day too) and a 10mm sparkplug socket from Halfords. Didn't get much time to do anything else, apart from rotating the cam lobes back to the position to check the front cylinder. Thought I'd double check the measurements, all the same except the clutch exhaust which I recorded 0.22 today rather than the 0.19 the other day  I'll double check them all tomorrow...

After waiting months to get my bike home, it was great to go for a ride around Ullswater lake this evening!  :happydance:

Well after dropping my bike of I collected the new new version. First impression won't be buying one.
Engine  pulls like a train that in my point of view is it. Not so good points. Seat  too narrow and hard, screen, mirrors might as well bin them. ride was very hard, yep I know its a demo bike but the ride was set for soft. Had engine vibration from the start in which I could feel via the bars and the seat, not nice on a long ride. Riding position was uncomfortable  seems the  end of the bars point slightly  down so my hands were at an angle.. Foot pegs get in the way when stationary and the gear lever seems nearer to the footpeg  so changing gear was  not a comfy as my bike. I know riders have different settings and tastes but this is my look at this bike and its not for me thanks.

Just finished fitting some Traxxion Dynamics fork cartridges I had left over from a previous bike. They should now give a much more supple ride, have adjustable rebound and compression damping to play with and more stroke too.

The front brakes were binding a bit after the winter season so stripped and cleaned the corrosion out from behind the dust seals and lower slide pin rubber. I did this last Oct but they were as bad again, not had this so frequently on other bikes with sliding calipers  Just got to ride it now....sometime...

Why did I not buy the 1000 years ago... I thought my 650's were great, this takes that to a whole new level (for me anyway). 198 mile ride around Dumfries & Galloway yesterday, first ride for months. So happy to be back out on the bike again.

A 650 to 1000 convert, a rare beast indeed, its usually the other way around.

Is your whole new level based on the extra power and torque or is there other qualities you prefer over the 650?

the extra power and torque

You've nailed it in one Skiddy.... I'm running the bike in at the moment but I am addicted to the grunt it has.  Thought my 650's were great fun but they don't pull like this.

I'm also enjoying having a powerful front brake for once, although the increased engine braking the 1000  has is taking a bit of getting used to.

My Fuel exhaust on my 650 sounded great...... it sounds even better on the Thou.

All good so far (500 miles done)

The roads were full of bikes today, so I couldn’t resist having a blast over the fell pass down to Ambleside this evening. Not a sole around, absolutely heaven!

The Struggle?
Yes I believe so, it was the first time I went that way and I was intrigued by the name of the route. It was lovely on the bike but would indeed be a struggle in my car... some of those narrow bends would be fun!

Adjusted the RH bar muff as was restricting the throttle - fitted a bit too well
The exhaust and wheels could do with a polish - will keep me busy til dinner  :thumb:
