Hello All, from prospective purchaser.
« on: December 10, 2023, 22:29:02 »
Hi All.
Prospective new owner of a V-Strom 650. though not sure which gen yet.
Recently passed my test after a layoff of 33yrs (couldn't be bothered to take test when it cost naff all) and, having done much research, I think a Strom is for me.
Took lessons and test on a Yamaha MT07 and have considered a Tracer but much prefer the look of the DL.
I've sat on a few V-Stroms but can't say I've test ridden one yet. Dealers seem to want "X" amount of years experience of riding before letting prospective purchasers loose on their bikes so it may be a suck it and see purchase.
Looking forward to reading through the forums and probably asking some daft questions.
Cheers for now.

 :welcani: from Northumberland.
The 650 STrom is an exceptional bike, great fun. Mine's a 2017 and I come to it from larger CC bikes. Mine is now kitted out for touring and it excels.
I'd just buy the best example you can afford and if you can find one with accessories that suit even better.
Check out the For Sales here.
Good luck.
Upt.

Welcome buzzwold,
I had a tracer7 for three weeks as a courtesy bike.
Compared to the 650 vstrom it was a less "substantial " bike with a more top end focussed engine.
Tracers are good bikes ,but the 3rd gen 650s are so well developed now they are really easy to ride and a match for the Tracer  on the road performance wise but much more comfortable.
You WILL be needing to replace the std screen though

Looking at you location, guessing Brizzol area? 😉, have a word with Ricky (doesn’t work Wednesdays and they’re closed on Sundays) at AT Motorcycles in Weston-super-Mare.

https://atmotorcycles.com/

They were Independent, but took on the Suzuki franchise a couple of years ago. They’re still a small set up and very helpful.

I got my 1050XT from them earlier this year.👍

There are small improvements between the generations but nothing ground breaking -  the main improvement is fuel economy, but if you get a deal on an earlier model go for it.

They are great bikes, I very much miss the fun character of my K6 650cc

Thanks for the welcomes folks!

Phild, I had a look at a Tracer down at Weston a couple of weeks back but no secondhand V-Stroms there at the moment.
I asked about test rides whilst there but unfortunately, their insurer requires 2 years min experience.
