One of my friends pointed out that I lost 29 bones, which seems careless of me.

You're a marvel. I don't smile because of my missing teeth and here you are saying look "this is me".

Last update: dressings off now, wound healed (33 days if you're playing along at home). It's still swollen so will be using a tubigrip for the foreseeable but otherwise done.

Now waiting for my referral back to the pain clinic to have a spinal cord stimulator fitted (like a pacemaker for pain) and then hopefully I'll get some pain relief, fingers crossed (on one hand, obvs).

Good to see the NHS will 'stump up' the cash for the spinal cord stimulator.

Makes my injuries look tame by comparison. I once had a customer who had a prosthetic arm. it was so good I kept trying to shake the wrong hand. Didn’t stop her from buying a Mazda MX-5 with an auto box, so I don’t expect anything will hold you back after what you have been through. You’re a marvel (Capt Marvel of course)

The device is implanted so a battery change needs an operation. Where do they put the battery? In an arse cheek, because at this stage, who needs dignity, right? Still, I guess there's plenty of room there... ;)

I haven't seen Captain Marvel yet but always glad to be compared to superheroes. Well, except  the Wasp, because screw wasps.

Much as I'd love to take the piss and make some appropriately ribald 'arse' comments I actually have a serious question.

If the pain kit battery needs implanting, what kind of lifespan does it have? and has anybody considered designing / fitting it with a wireless charging system?

I'm guessing it's like a 5 or 10 year battery (which is still too short if they have to cut the bloody thing out every time the battery farts) and wireless generally applies to hours/days - but we must have the technology, no - we do have the technology - it just needs applying properly.

Maybe worth asking if someone can do some science worth doing and get one built for you.

Just a thought...

They do come in wireless rechargeable versions but even they only last 8-10 years. Non-rechargeable ones only last 2-5 :(

2-5 years! son of a B****  - wow... I'm sorry, :/ I thought they'd be better than that by now.

Even 8-10 with recharging isn't brilliant... but I suppose new tech for internal applications is slow to trickle into the mainstream ('elf and safety etc...)

Ho hum, at least it's better than yearly, that really would be a pain in the .... er... yeah... [gets coat]
