12v Accessory Socket
« on: May 05, 2012, 17:52:47 »
I've just ordered a £5.99 'ebay special' for the wee2

Has anyone else fitted one of these, and had any issues?

They seem straight forward , connect straight to the battery via a fusable link..

can't see why I need to pay £70 quid for the genuine one, they must be the same thing?

It'll do the job.
One option is to use tamiya rc connectors. You can fix say a female to the battery with a fuse, and then join your socket to it using a  male end. If you have a battery conditioner/charger and you use it during the winter, just disconnect this from the socket and plug the charger into the bike. Just allows some flexibility.
If you mod it, They will come!

Have had a cheapo waterproof socket fitted for quite a while now with no problems, just ensure yours has a drain hole and if not a bit of hot wire will soon make one! :)

Have have a cheap one too, marine waterproof 12V socket. It's wired directly to the battery with a fuse. Been on there almost all the time I've had the bike and it's seen the cold British winters, rain and everything else this climate can throw at it. Haven't had any trouble with it and will buy another if I needed another. This was the one I bought, was a bit cheaper back then, but that was about 2 years ago.

£70 is taking the piss, but not as much as £279 for heated grips
