Road 5 Trail - Front replaced after 15400 miles
« on: August 23, 2018, 18:21:44 »
This is my second front Road 5 Trail.

Hoped this front would last until the rear needed replacing again and was then going to try something different just out of interest, but was not to be. Have no complaints with the Road 5 trails.

Didn't shop around, went to my regular local (A&D Motorcycles, Denbigh), cost £145.6 fitted.

15,400 miles? I'd be happy with that! Looks fairly even too.

I was thinking the same  :thumb:

How many miles did you get out of the rear?

My rear Road 5 trail is starting to feel a bit dodgy after 7000 miles, front is probably OK, not sure though I might change back to Roadtec 01, they felt grippier from what I remember.

What tyre pressure should I use Road 5 trails? 100% solo riding, I'm using 36-40 at the minute, changed the rear Road 5 at 8500 miles, front will do another few thousand miles.

I’ve got these, and am very pleased with them. Feel invincible almost. They stick like limpets to rock. Michelin’s are great, grippy, but the downside is, they’re soft(ish) and wear. You pays ye money and makes ye choice. definitely get them again 👍

Hello.

4000kms before both tyre replacement, I think that these Road 5 are great and very safe, fun nd all weather confidence tyres.

I suspect that rear will die around 7000 kms nd front maybe at 14-15000.

For my preferences It's enough.

I have 11500 miles now on the Road 5 front, this thing just will not die, 3000 on the new rear I fitted last Summer, never got  mileage like this from a tyre before, grip is still great but I'm no Rossi.

Mine went the same. The edges of the PR5's rears  are very soft and tend to feather up if you like the corners plus the 1000cc strom really rips them up more so than the 650.
The 5 rear only lasted me 4k miles. The 4 rears 5-6k miles. I now use anneke 3's, not the same grip but OK and at 3k miles the rear looks good for at least the same again or more.

I have 3000 miles on the Road 5 rear on the 650 and it still looks almost new, another reason to stick with the 650!!

Hi.

Rear Road 5 Trail replaced on april after 11500 kms. It`s a good amount  IMO.

Also I´m very happy with them, in all weather conditions and riding styles.

Regards.

That's great mileage for a 1000cc strom, 9,320 miles to a rear tyre? I wouldn't get that on the 650.

Hi.

Here front tyre 14000kms after replacement.
I was planning that I would change both wheels at the same time, but I think this front will not last another 7000 km.

In general I really like them, but I notice that the case can be soft, so it flanks in certain circumstances.

Regards and take good care of you.

My last set of PR5 Trail survived 12000miles rear and about 20000miles front. Current set has 9000miles both. Front is very little wear, rear is squared due to motoway commuting but it still have about 2mm till the marker. Next set will be Anakee Adventure, want to try something else from Michelin stable.

Wow, that's some mileage! My pr5 rear was toast in 4k! Never used the front but the pr4 front lasted 9k.
I changed to Ankee 3's, I'm getting much better mileage, at 6k now and another 2k left maybe but grip is not nearly as good wet r dry and the worst thing is the tyres are harsh on bumps especially the front. I'm not sure it the adventure anakee is the same carcass as the 3 but something to be aware of.

Just plugged a puncture in the Road 5 rear, it's done just over 6000 miles, small sharp stone was the culprit, it punctured in the sipe, wonder is it safe to ride plugged for a while?
if it was the front tyre I really wouldn't trust the plug, I'd like to get another few thousand out of this rear tyre, there's at least another 2-3000 miles left in it tread wise,
definitely going to change to something different next time, something more 80/20 for gravel and a bit of green laning.

plugged loads of tyres and rode them all till tyre died you will be fine.
