Tyre Relief - Big thumbs up for Continentals
« on: July 24, 2013, 14:02:41 »
My wife has always been unhappy with the handling of her Wee (fnar fnar), and has lacked confidence in the bike since she got it.  Even though the tyres were nearly brand new I’ve been nagging her for ages to change them as they were of the evil Trailwing variety that made my Vee handle like a pig.

She insisted it was the bike and has become increasingly dispondant with it, causing her to talk about going back to a bike like her previous GPZ500.  So unbeknown to her I took the bike in and for her birthday had a fresh set of Continental Trail Attack 2’s fitted and then took the bikes out for a run with her.

Helmet off after 50 miles she was grinning ear to ear.  She said the bike was turning and holding lines throught the bends.  Now the front is less vague and she says it’s the best bike Shes had, and no talk of other bikes.

Only thing to mention, can't comment on wet weather performance yet!

On another plus, it sorted out what to get her for her birthday !!

Big thumbs up for Conti’s

How many woman would be happy with a set of tyres for their birthday?!
She must be something special

ps. And another mark against Trailwings, "not the tyres" and "not so bad" until you change them...

Sorry mate, I'm hitting a blank, would only remember if I saw you and her again :) Age, beer and all that... I need more excuses for forgetting stuff this easily.

ps. Best tell her we things she's great for taking a set of tyres as a birthday present. She might appreciate it enough that you can get away with some brake pads next year?

A pair of tyres are a lot less expensive than a new bike so you actually saved money getting her the present ;)
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

Yep, win/win.

Contis eh? Not really a tyre seriously considered in the sportsbike sector, seems I have a lot to learn.

Contis like to head shake a bit at around 40mph but it isn't really a bad thing if you don't let it bother you. The ATs won a tyre comparison shoot out a few years back.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

My Dad runs Conti Road Attacks on his VFR and He is impressed with them, hence why we tried the TA2's
