I was at Oulton Park this bank holiday Monday, loads of nice shiny sports bikes with their owners in their leather romper suits, with very very shiny helmets.
Got me wondering how the hell they get the helmets like that. Apart from spending all week polishing for a 2 hour ride thinking they are on the Nürburgring, well if it's not raining that is!
I usually just use a sponge and soapy water then dry it off with kitchen towel.
So how do you lot do yours?
Do you use the special cleaners you can get?
If so, are they any good and what if any is the benefit?
-
Apart from the usual humorous reply, the simple answer is I don't. I clean my lid of bugs and dirt, not using anything abrasive or corrosive.
I never use wax or polish
-
I tend to give mine a quick squirt of Shift-It helmet & visor cleaner any time I'm doing my visor. Seems to stop the beasties sticking as much.
-
Pledge, including the visor. Mines a matt colour so doesn't get much of a shine.
We are still talking motorcycle crash helmets aren't we?
-
I take the visor off and dunk it in Soapy water, but the helmet just gets a damp cloth over it.

Go on then, I'll start
In private !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I use windolene wipes, simply because I found a pack in the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen! The wife hasn't spotted that they've gone missing yet, so I think I'm safe!

I guess it depends on how big your helmet is.
Mine's an extra large :)
Is it a full face or is it [s:3400m7bs]circumcised[/s:3400m7bs] open faced.

Wurth helmet and visor cleaner, I've had a can for years and it's hardly gone down.
-
I nick a floor wipe from the cleaning supplies. They are big and slightly soapy and work well. I just dry it with anything I can find that's softish, usually a towel. I don't really clean the helmet all that often, mostly just clean the visor with some warm water and a soft tissue (30 second clean on the way out while I'm already wearing the helmet.)
-
I have a big bottle of glasses cleaning spray somewhere in my office. I hadn't thought of using that. Where the hell is it...?
-
Tarmac mostly, seem to get most things off :bawl:

You have got to be joking. They miss nothing.
At the appropriate time.............. "And where are my wipes ? You expect me to clean ..... without my wipes".
Naughty chair time.

Re:Helmet cleaning
'Shift-it' do a range of helmet products
It was distributed by Phoenix NW, who approved it for Arai and Shoei helmets (which they also used to distribute)-until they ceased trading March 2012.
The Helmet & Visor cleaner won a 'Ride' recommended triangle.
I've used the whole range of their products for 8 years.
Its cheap, lasts for ages, cleans and polishes helmets inside and out. Widely available at dealers.

I also use NIKWAX visor water repellent;- Its the best so far and water based so less harmful. £5.49
