I'll shamelessly start :)
There was a thread on Sheds/Garages but I think we need to dig deeper into what goes on in your cave. This is mine and some of the sad things I do there :shy:

I don't have a garage but I can already foresee this thread making me green with envy. My bike sits on the drive under a cover, not ideal but it's that or no bike at all!
Mr Rat, your garage, sorry, man cave is lovely..
-
I may end up living there at this rate so best make it comfortable :shy:
-
My man cave , I'm on the lookout for a bigger one as no room for any more bikes..

Looks far too tidy to me. You're obviously not spending enough time in it...
-
Aha! What timing! My man-cave is under development, finishing this week (I hope/plan) and I'll sort the pics out soon :thumb:
-
Fat Rat, that tidy place is not a man cave.
I'm now trying not to say something inappropriate about a Lady Cave.
-
Careful man, the search engines pick that sort of language up and we don't want anyone weirder than the rest of us frequenting this place
-
Says the man who just started a 'Lubricants' section!
-
Fair cop :shy:
-
There are weirder people than us?

I wish I had a man cave , instead , I have a man back garden which consists of a fully paved are containing 5 motorbikes , 4 of which work , 4 bicycles and 2 sheds full of tools :)

Nice garden Kodkod ..in need of a good Man Cave ?
I have a garden and a cobbled yard for a bike and cellar for tools (or junk ) boo hoo no cave !
-
sorry for making you cry, ( but go grab a bucket ) that's only a small portion of my garden, its almost 50 mts long

Posted months ago about starting my 'mezzanine' man-cave ( 'New - Mezzanine Man-Cave' the perfume for men!...No?)
basically have a single garage attached to hoose. Now her indoors has appropriated 2/3rds of it as washing room/and there's a fridge and her cycles in there (oh, and an underused elliptical running machine as well).
The Strom ahas the botton third of the garage, BUT, because of the pitched roof, I've got a velux window up there and a platform which I've been transforming so its insulated, electric and I'm putting my new workbench up there this week, too.
1st photo: early days (ignore dates, they're wrong) looking up from the roller doors into roof...
Top of the ladders, work has started, getting insulated etc. With help from Jeff999 from the forum, after this got some boards on the ceiling...
Looking down at the paltry space left for the Bike...(my fault - but I'm working on a solution!)All a bit of a mess here...Back in the winter, I kicked a hammer over the edge onto the bike, hit on the top of the mirror, then away from the tank = no damage - how feckin lucky was that

Looking good Gassoon , I could imagine you sliding down a firemans pole and straight onto the Wee :thumb:
-
lol! there's an idea! Jeff used to be one, I'll ask if he can get his hands on a fireman's po........................
..........er, I'm starting to regret this conversation :shy:
I must admit I was thinking more 'Stingray' , sliding down the ladders (which I will be rigging to be retractable, btw, cutting me off from the world of women, like a sailor in the offing, where I can see and hear what's happening on the land, but they can't reach me)
Just don't know whether, when its finished , to get more tools I'll probably never use - or a mini-fridge :obscene-drinkingchug:
-
I was just wondering how you would get up there and how you would get heavy things up there. A block and tackle might be a good idea.

10/10 for the man cave Gas', gets the 2112 seal of approval :thumb:
P.S. nice coffee too.

That looks cavernous compared to my matchbox, mr diver...have you still got the Dohville, or did it go?
Cheers, twenty-one twelve, any time
Juve, I've got my tools, odds and ends, cable etc in small-medium sized plastic crates, so I can hoy them up there quite easily, or on my shoulder up the ladders. I've got some shelving as well to go up there (wooden, Ikea, ex-kids play-room - painted bonny colours ! - but they'll dee).
The heaviest thing to get up there this week is the new workbench, but its in sections, assemble (and strengthen) in situ. :lala:
I've got to remember there are limits to what weight I can put on the floor up there...I made the bloke who built it 'over-engineer' it, and its supported by strong wooden uprights underneath, as well as 'coach-bolts' into the walls, but still, there are limits! I don't want to find those limits by finding myself sitting on my arse in the room below in a cloud of dust and debris!
Clang!
That was the obligatory late hammer landing on my noggin, as I sit amongst the wreckage...
-
I can (since I cleared out most of the junk) fit 4 bikes in there, but it won't leave much room to move around.
the deauville went in part ex for the mrs 125 marauder and money back.
was a nice bike but I couldn't justify kepping it and the others. I want to rebuild the Cx500 and use it for commuting the short distance to work, the strom for touring and a bike for the mrs. anymore and I be greedy. lol
-
my garage, bit messy at the moment though. enough room for 2 bikes if I bothered to sort it out

here's mine under construction
That looks like the size I want to build, interested in your slab construction and what you are making the walls out off.
-
the concreat was ready mix, poured in 1 go. its 6.5 x 5.5 meters and 3 high. the walls are 11mm osb board. wanted to go thicker but was just tooooooo pricey
-
Osb isn't waterproof, how are you weatherproofing the walls?
-
b and q have some wood sealant paints on 3for2 for the big buckets
-
I'm thinking of extending my 10x10, well, build off it in the same dimensions. Might use shiplap for the bits you can see and osb for the bits you can't.. Who doesn't like saving money? :)

Indeed it is Stromivarius ! :) And I'm envious of your man-cave (I almost said 'lust after' but came to my senses) and your lovely VanVan...Is that bench specially reserved for the buffing of seats?

It's better now I've put a new roof on it, leaked like a sieve before :bawl:
That's my old inverted router table, but like you said now used as a "seat buffing platform"

Here is my new 'Man Cave' that I've just had built replacing the old concrete sectional garage that was falling to pieces and got battered in the freak hail storms last June.

Alright, alright...in the morning, I'm on me tablet ...
But I feel inadequate now I've seen the size of your mancave, Rat, which is bloody palatial:-[
-
OK OK I'll see what I can do. working nights atm so its constantly dark for me.
-
But I feel inadequate now I've seen the size of your mancave, Rat, which is bloody palatial:-[
You have a mezzanine garage, few can match such splendour :thumb:
-
You're right 2112, mezzanine trumps palatial! ;-)
Anyway, reminder (refer back to previous photies if you can be arsed): single garage, but with tall pitched roof. Decided to build a platform level, giving a 'utility room' for the washer, extra fridge/freezer and exercise equipent etc. A wee workshop with a bench upstairs and still have a garage bit for the bike. 3 rooms out of one. My big mistake was letting the wife have too much space for the utility room :angry-tappingfoot: My fault for sure.
I also put in a super-strong shelf for storage over the 'garage' space (for camping kit etc) with beams bolted together and heavy duty eyelets in case I need to suspend owt.
This view from the top of the ladder which goes to the 'mezzanine'. (it's middle-class for 'big shelf you can walk aroond on') Just enough room to get the bike in the garage, though...not good if I need to do serious work on it. If needed I could alter the partition wall sometime to extend the garage area. At least I have the bike and all bike-related stuff in one place now!
Anyway, upper level now got power, light, heat, bench, tools etc - and a lot of stuff just hoyed up there for winter storage now. But I like the bench under the velux - great light, and decent view! (The horizon is County Durham).

I treated myself to a bike lift off Flea-Bay £285 delivered.
Also got a pair of M&P stands.
Lots of work to do on the VTR.
The Glee is covered.
And my free tip for using a bike cover is to wrap the rear sprocket with a plastic bag so as to keep the inside of the cover free of oil.
A quick bench / tool table can be made up using two small trestles and an old door and it stacks away when not in use.
I painted the inside walls with two coats of Thompsons water treatment and then applied a coat of 4 to 1. water and PVA. When that went off I cut thin decorators polystyrene into strips and pasted it in the rebate sections of the concrete walls. It's not cosy but there is no condensation (yet).
I now have to pipe in a power supply and then I can have the radio on.
-
In the meanwhile you can use a battery operated radio, a bit of background radio is essential :)
-
Yes and it's default station is Radio 4 ( can't get Radio 5 due to being too close to the coast)
-
I need to buy a generator for the garage... It's on a compound across the road, so no mains. I do have a solar panel and the mrs old car battery, useful for pumping up the tyres on the bikes and it's running a couple of 12v lights so I can see when it's dark in there. no use for working on the bike but I can see to lock it up.
I do have a wind up/solar FM radio I bought for camping... 1min for cranking gives about 20 mins of radio... if it's sunny and I pop it out side the garage it will be fine until the sun goes behind a cloud.
The radio, speakers and all the wiring got 'stolen' from the mrs old car before it got collected by the scrappers.
all I need is some time and my soldering iron and I'll get that rigged up over there. Best thing is it is a cassette tape with FM radio so I have the cassette and cable that will plug into my ipod or phone :thumb:
I have mains power in one of the two block-work sheds in the garden but the only way to get a bike into it, is handle bars off and straight thought the kitchen... I'm not doing that again.
-
Get an old low RPM Lister Diesel engine and an alternator. Run the engine on used, but filtered vegetable oil and you have a cheap reliable generator. You just pipe the exhaust outside and most of the noise goes out with it. Doesn't take up too much space and you can use the exhaust heat to warm the place up too, just need a few copper tubes to run around the exhaust and some sort of radiator which you can usually pick up cheap at a tip shop. That's the quick version of how to do it, the detailed version is in my head and has different permutations depending on the system's requirements :) Poke me if you want to know more :thumb:

Finally got round to digging out a couple of shots. 4 motorbikes and 6 pedal cycles make for a bit of a squeeze in a single garage. The XR is off to another forum member and I need to move on a couple of the kids bikes they have outgrown but I am not sure it's ever going to be minimalist!

That little Yamaha, I had the 50cc engined one as my first bike. Mind, it wasn't near that neat when I had it.
-
Good memories; I saw an 80 up for sale recently which I'd have bought if I could get my kids interested but no such luck.
Mine's great fun to ride - I use it every 6 weeks or so for a classic trial, although it's been misbehaving of late so I've just bought electronic ignition to fit (with the help of a more knowledgeable mate).

A nice but slightly loud bike from its non-standard silencer! I'm experimenting with baffles, have some glass wool on order as well...
So far, its fun (but I got into trouble because I was supposed to get a VanVan originally...but I think wife and daughter should be glad I didn't come in with a pouch of magic beans...)

Not a lot of room to work around any of your bikes Asmith61........... :fix:
Nice bikes, shame about the space
-
Hi mr rocket
Yes you are right there the building is actually 6mx5m and is as big as the building regs would allow at the time, I have to move 2 bikes outside to do any work on one machine in the pic you can see the bandit is on a hydrolic ramp which is a brilliant piece of kit thanks for your coments
-
Just shuffle everything round to work on something...
-
Asmith61, just a humoristic comment on my part. I'd like three bikes in my Man Cave! (SWMBO wall!)
I get my free bike space back when our son's Twingo goes out for the Summer. :shy:
lol
-
has anyone thought about putting SWMBO in the shed and the bikes in the house?
-
Very untidy at the moment though need to spend some time in there
-
Having discovered that my mechanical skills are somewhat lacking I decided it was right and proper to make an effort to learn.
Since 2015 I have been slowly reshaping things in my garden to make a man cave to be proud of for myself, Tigerman and our mate Pete. I have kept these developments quiet for some time but we are getting closer to the end of the project so I thought I would share it with you now as it currently stands. There is still some work to do but it is taking shape very nicely.
Warning - I deliberately picked the music to pish you off so feel free to mute it
https://youtu.be/I-6yNnVyDiU
Now I need to get oil on my hands and start to learn to the point I understand what you are all talking about when we go for rides out.
Let the fun begin!
-
Very impressive Mr Ridaz! :thumb: Loving the elevator music...
-
Yes I agree very impressive :thumb:
-
This is my tinkering garage ..
-
@Ridaz that looks mega, Kevin McCloud will be thrilled. I like the idea of the Tigerman gargoyle to keep BMW's at bay.
@kwackboy your cave looks very soothing.
-
@kwackboy your cave looks very soothing.
Cheers .. :thumb:
Has to be , lots of thinking goes on . It's not shown but on ceiling is a mini chandelier to create the correct lighting . :icon_wink:
-
That's it, you've embarrassed me into tidying out my garage...soon.
-
As with all things Ridaz, progress has been slow but the Man Cave is coming along well now and close to complete.
I spoil the Mrs me, bought her a new kitchen so had no choice but to re purpose the old units which make for excellent storage.
My son had signed up to buy his first house so whilst we waiting for a few teething problems to be resolved in the man cave he decided to leave all of his white goods in for storage. He has since moved them all to his new home.
The first bike to enter the mancave belongs to Tigerman as seen below. We have been let down by a number of electricians so far so working by gas light but more promising news is that this may all be resolved very soon. Light and heat would have helped a lot during winter!
Now I just need a project of my own :happydance:
-
Very nice Ridaz, a worthy man cave! Good idea to recycle the kitchen units too. :thumb:
-
Very impressive mate, the Ducati doorstop looks very substantial. :)
-
Anyone who has fallen foul of the Photobucket changes (they were crap anyway) and their images no longer display, :topic_closed: send them to me by email I will upload them into your posts :thumb:
-
My man cave finally has mains power after 5 years of getting round to it. As its a detached garage it was quite a job. There's now a hefty 18mm armoured cable running to it. I think the electrician said it was capable of carrying 50 amps ready for when fossil burners are history.
-
You are all lucky, my man cave is the street as that is where the bike is.
-
Now my daughter has her own place I now have 2 man caves, both full of Sh*t :lala:
-
One day... :smirk:
-
Ridaz, if you'd remembered to fit a sink under that window she could've used that as the kitchen and you'd be able to get the bikes in the house.
-
lol
-
No way there was a sink going in there.... I go in there to get away from washing the dishes!
-
Don't forget the central heating...and a telly.
-
Not really my katcave....but useful no need to wash these mugs ever again, she'll never see the oily prints ...
-
The man cave just after having the floor and walls done.. still need to sort the cupboards out. :groan:
-
@immingham very nice
-
I've had a bit of a tidy up, just to kill the boredom.
-
Not the most tidy or clean, but must be the oldest.
Our house is from 1810, my man cave down the bottom of the garden predates the house as the original dwelling.
-
Not as grand as some, but it allowed me to return my round the world Suzuki to normal trim. Now I just have to sell off the old pannier frames, engine bars and sump guard.
-
Ratcatcher, last photo had me fooled. Looks like toilet roll on the wall! lol
-
Mine is a metal shed and timber bike port. I currently share it with our sons scooter and TL1000.
-
Here's mine. I share it with a chum who also has a strom amongst other bikes.
-
Thanks to my local shop over ordering shelving I have finally got more space and some order to my man cave.
-
Quick, take a photo whilst it's vaguely tidy and the car's outside.
-
I did have a nice big double garage, but new home only has a single so I’ve had to maximise storage options 😊.
-
Today, my temporary man cave arrived in the form of a large green metal box. I shall now transfer a lot of the contents into the metal box from the brick box, throw a lot of contents from the brick box into an open metal box and then knock down the brick box - before it falls down by itself...
As you can imagine it has significantly buggered the view out of the front window and the Mrs is not happy. Ho hum.
-
..... significantly buggered ......
That's an understatement.
-
Progress has been made on the transfer from brick to metal. The old Suzook is going on Tuesday so I can then move the Tigger in, may need a bit of a ramp ? Acres of space so it's all going to go in nicely with room to spare.
-
A couple from my mancave
-
Nice Ridaz
Same bike lift as mine
-
What's that in the middle of the red circle
-
I had to zoom in on the original to find out.... a pink dust sheet...
Nosy fecker lol
-
lol
-
So, for various reasons the garage project is going a LOT slower than I would like. However, I've finally moved 99.9% of everything I would like to keep into the container. I just need to get the old units and cabinet out, re-jig the electrics and I can knock the old garage down.
-
Hi 2112
The old man cave looked like a very good space, will the new one be the same sort of size ?
-
Just noticed that reply, yes is the answer. Work finally starts on the 4th of October by builder number 4... I've been let down by three and it's a common theme sadly as there is sooo much work out there at the moment. Brickies can pick & chose the most lucrative jobs and dump the less rewarding ones, despite agreeing the work, price & timescale. This will come back to bite them firmly on the arse of course, twats.
One did come crawling back after he got 'gazumped' by another builder on a big build, but I politely told him to p155 off. Cheeky sod. Pics to follow in due course.
-
After what seems like forever work is finally underway in earnest. The main cause of my subsidence has been discovered - insufficient foundations at the front of the garage ! This has been remedied with a very deep trench and a lot of concrete. The rest of the garage appears to be fine from the test holes they've dug. The floor will be raised up three brick courses (as will the lintel) to enable a flat drive as it slopes in quite a bit now. Just relieved it's moving along...
-
After some hiccups work is (slowly) underway. The retaining wall for the new height concrete floor is now built and the walls are notched read to be strengthened & widened (I'm reducing my opening to 4M). The drains have been lifted to the new height. Fingers crossed I might be in for Christmas ?
-
Very nice. Storage in the roof?
-
It appears so, I have a loft hatch which I can't remember having opened since I put the lights in some 23 years ago. I shudder to think what I'll find up there...
-

Space?
Looking forward to the end result. :)
-
Space - the final frontier
-
That is a great space glad you have managed to get supplies delivered and managed to get started :thumb:
-
Cheers chaps, I shall keep you updated as (if...) work progresses :thumb:
-
Well, it's been a productive day on the garage front at 2112 towers. The gable end is down and the bricks will be used to build up the drive. The pillars are built to their new height and my entrance is exactly 4M wide. It's all going swimmingly so watch it go 'udders skywards' tomorrow... It also appears I have got some loft insulation and it's part boarded, which saves a bit of work.
-
The lintel is now back up at it's new height and the scaffolding is up ready to crack on with the gable end rebuild. Biblical rain stopped play apparently so that's fair enough I guess.
-
:eusa-doh:
-
Today's installment and I have a gable end again ! The blockwork will be covered in cladding so it will look bright & cheerful. I still need to pick a colour for the new garage door. Hmmm...
-
Blue for boys.
-
Or mix the blue with some red & white to honour the contents: like this...
-
It might look like a target then, the Mrs doesn't need much of an excuse to drive into an inanimate object...
-
Vinyl....
-
Hammerite, garage door paint, Buckingham Green.................... you do get used to it!!
-
Black and White Stripes
-
:text-goodpost:
-
lol
-
All ready for a concrete floor pour !
-
I like that vinyl image.....half finished project! :)
-
I have a floor !
-
All you need to do now is keep cats, dogs, squirrels, foxes etc. off it until it goes off.
-

Don't forget the Solar Panels.
-
I already have 14.9kW worth of PV, a wind turbine will be next...
-
The garage refurbishment continues, I now (almost) have a drive again. Just needs sand brushing in to lock them in place and I've got access. The garage door is due to arrive next week so going well.
-
No footprints in the concrete then?
-
Not like that :haha:
-
As of today I have a garage door and a side door ! Progress continues and I have been formulating plans for the interior. Going well thus far.
-
Quote removed
Does this involve a four poster ramp, air compressor, heating, coffee machine & a shower?
:)
-
You've been spying :smirk: But you missed the corner bar & optics...
-
Last night I applied a generous helping of PVA to seal the floor. It soaked it up like a sponge and was bone dry in no time ! This will provide a nice stable base to lay my rubber floor tiles on. 5 x 5' fluorescent light fittings free to good home if anyone is passing ?
-
Looking very smart, you going LED on the lighting?
Did mine earlier this year and wish I'd done it sooner.
-
Yes, I bought a box of 10 60w 1200mm long panels, going for a 3 x 3 layout. Should be plenty bright enough.
-
Crikey, what are you planning on growing in there 😉.
-
Today was floor tile delivery day so I've cracked on and nearly killed myself in the process. I'm just not used to manual work anymore and it's been tough, my knees are killing me too. Anyhow, it's getting there and I'll do the awkward bits tomorrow.
-
Looking good 👍
-
:thumb:
-
I'd like to see your proposals for heating.......
Will separation from the house be permanent? :haha:
-
Looking real smart lol
-
I'd like to see your proposals for heating.......
If you look at one of the pictures you'll see a spanking new panel heater which will be the heating source. The loft is insulated but it's only single skin brick construction so I'll have it set low to keep the frost off and then crank it up when I'm in farting about.
-
When you're farting about, you won't need the heater.
You could export that. :icon_wink:
-
Treated myself to a new mitre saw some time ago however, I didn't have anywhere to use it so I built a new work bench and turned an unused corner of my man cave into a woodworking area.
After some shocking wood prices I used reclaimed wood from a local reclamation yard and saved lots of money, In fact, if I'd have bought new wood the cost was nearly four times as much ..
Anyway, after two days graft I've finally finished the bench. Just need a nice wood vice and a few more tools :lala:
-
Kwackboy, I see you too have the rubber interlocking matting??
How do you rate it over a painted concrete floor?
Any down sides?
I ask as I'm getting ready to fit battery storage in my garage.
I meant to ask 2112 but forgot.
-
Show off.... Looks very good. :thumb:
-
@ V-Twin
I have to confess that my flooring is the cheap stuff from B&Q.
We use to have carpet but after a minor flood we had to rip it up. We bought it as a temporary cheap fix while we looked for better rubber flooring.
Its very soft, nice to walk on and it's warm however, it's easily damaged. To be honest, it's been around 5 months or so since I fitted the flooring and it's seems to be holding up very well.
It cost about £70 ....
-
Nice creation kwackboy. :thumb: A good solution to a dead space.
I'm a workshop woodworker (not site 'chippie') and would make the observation that a corner woodworking bench is not favourable for long lengths. I have a short bench near the end of my garage because of space to house the bikes, the car etc. I've had to put a vice at either end to play with both ends of a piece of longish wood. I know from my working days that a clear 2m either way is a minimum from a bench mounted saw so.... good luck playing with those mitres! :icon_wink:
-
I'm no craftsman, I'm just playing at it....
Thanks for the advice though... :thumb:
-
Not the whole cave, but here's a picture of my spanner collection.
-
Keeping your metric and imperial ones on separate rows is a good idea. Don't want to risk rounding nuts with the wrong one...
-
Going by his avatar, He's already rounded something. :icon_wink:
-
Very true Mr Nick and those were my thoughts at the time, although it did take me a little bit of time to adjust.
V-Twin - lol
-
I managed to bag a set of shelving from our local shop, so tidied up my man cave. It now has an electric door after twice cutting my head with a falling up and over door. The dent in the pannier was caused by a car in India. Managed to keep out up though.
-
Installed a bit of class to my ongoing new bench project, a bargain ebay find...
When picking it up I was met by an elderly gentleman, I'd say in his mid 80's. I was told its brand new, never used and was purchased with another back In the early 1960's, so its older than me, allegedly
I've looked around and can't seem to able to date it, anyone have any better knowledge..?
Its a Record 52-1/2 ED, quick release 9inch woodworking Vice.
-
It's not as old as you think mate, circa 1984 I believe.
It has a left hand thread I think and special paint to cope with heat and salt water.
It's a Miami Vice mate.
-
How is "Vice" getting past the Americanism filter?
-
Just an saide while talking about benches and vices.
Here's the bench I use at Emmaus, mon cave a l'homme, (where I repair/renovate furniture and other objects for a new life to the benefit of the poor). It is a traditional bench with large scissor vice on the left and a metal vice on the right . Note the modern planes I have to use too!
Edit: there is a manual press in the middle between the drawer and plane on the bench for holding work down. It works a treat too!
-
Cheers TL .. :thumb:
Strange, I looked at his other one that was bought at the same time, it was mounted to his work bench, was identical but well used and looked older (obviously) which suggested the one I bought was from the same era and both have "made in England" on them
I don't think I've been scammed, I only paid £50 .. lol
-
I hope that £50 was for both of them. :smirk:
-
How is "Vice" getting past the Americanism filter?
lol OK, now please delete the question and this post since you've added v-I-s-e to the naughty list.
-
Yes, I noticed my mistake had been rectified... :icon_wink:
I blame my phone, it spells for me, which means it can't spell either. :dl_hyperhysteria:
-
1960's would have been made in Sheffield then, the original factory long gone sadly.
-
Little more work over the holidays, nearly there .. :lala:
-
Tidy wiring mate, TallPaul would approve.
-
Very nice work but how will you stop those little nuts bolt washer etc from finding their way underneath that workbench?
-
A special catch tray ... :icon_wink:
Where is tall Paul..?
-
It's nearly there and my shipping container is now empty ! A bit more to go but it's close but more importantly the Tigger is back in it's propper home.
-
Great job ( not jealous at all ) :thumb:
-
No garage envy here at all, no siree Bob. :bawl:
The scale becomes apparent with shelves and the bike in.
-
Enough room for a bar, some sofas and a flat screen TV .
Agreed , garage envy :icon_drool5:
Great job .. :thumb:
-
Let's face it people, he's built a hangar.
-
Cheers for the kind words folks, deep down I'm just looking forwards to getting rid of that dirty great shipping container that's been obstructing my drive for the last few months !
-
I don't know if it shows up on the pictures but the 'centre post' at the back of the garage isn't actually in the centre...
-
Not that I noticed ?
How far is it out ?
-
Knock it down, start again!
-
This would trigger my ocd.. lol
-
Move the light and nobody will know.
-
It's about 3" out of line, the centre posts at each side are even further out. However, the big news today is that the shipping container has gone forever
-
New toy so I can blow up all sorts ... :icon_wink:
-
Including a life-size Hindenburg replica?
-
FR's birthday surprise?
-
lol
-
This is my new work bench.........
-
I don't know if it shows up on the pictures but the 'centre post' at the back of the garage isn't actually in the centre...
Build another Pillar the other side of the sockets and put shelves across them.
-
Oh no, it's getting some wall mounted metal cabinets in there. Well, once Big Dug sends me all the pieces...
-
I finally got my missing parts and with the assistance of my mate Davey I have wall mounted cupboards. The doors are on gas rams and open with a very gentle action, which is nice. I have installed a 1400mm long led light strip underneath which is spot on for lighting up the bench. Very happy and my worktop tool box is going to be filled with all the most commonly used tools over the next few nights. It's coming on nicely :thumb:
-
Looks good, although those two 240v sockets look too close to the bench to get a plug in?
-
easy solution !!! turn them upside down. Earth pin at bottom and flex going upwards !!..
-
Easy to rectify when he finds out for the first time. :icon_wink:
Just shorten the trunking & move sockets up to easy hand height.
-
Looking great :thumb:
-
V-twin ,, I see no trunking ????
-
It's above the left socket of the right bank.
-
Tusker, Just above the work table are two twin sockets.
Above the Right socket is the trunking.
Just enlarge the picture to see it.
PS. just follow your nose.
-
Ah, see it now ,, but still means cutting trunking, making making new holes and repainting etc.. just turn them over !!!!!
-
Lower the bench?  :stirpot:
-
To be honest I wouldn't use 1/8th of a bench surface with a tool cabinet (plus the opening drawers in front). It's like having a micro-wave oven on the kitchen work surface. Looks good on a plan but you lose a quarter of space offered.
All my common tools, screwdrivers and spanners are on an open shelf, roughly in order, to one side and always readily available.
My opinion only, of course. :icon_wink:
I'm not trying to find fault. It's just that I put my bench under the garage window (for maximum daylight) which opens inwards and if I want to open it..........
Sorry another thought. Cables in the middle of the bench are really a problem. Same reason as they take up working space. Too late to put a socket at either side maybe?
-
Looks good, although those two 240v sockets look too close to the bench to get a plug in?
They are close (my old bench seems to have beena good 3" or so lower than this one, but at 6'2" this is spot on) but my longest plug with a longer than standard body that I use in the garage fits OK so no drama. I may move them up a bit when I get a chance and stick a couple of spurs either side for things like a radio etc.
-
I have finally succumbed to the inevitable and have moved the two double sockets up a few inches. This has made room for the new kitchen worktop I have bonded to the rather poxy 15mm plywood 'Big Dug' thinks passes as a heavy duty worktop. It is now! A nice 5" Vice is on the way and will be bolted to the bench on the right hand side. My roller tool box is now filled and I've even bought a labelling machine so I may actually be able to find my tools again...
-
Spent the weekend clearing out the garage as my wife decided she wanted 1/4 of the shelving for a pantry overflow. Something to do with the war in Ukraine has made my wife paranoid that she needs enough food, medicine and cleaning products in case war breaks out here
Anyway, 4 full car loads to the dump later and the garage is useable again. I can at least find my tools and walk around the bike, so all good. Hopefully if it’s warmer next weekend I can start getting lost in the lakes again :thumb:
-
And.... the After Picture... :smirk:
-
That was the after picture lol
With four kids and my wife on a war footing, this is the emptiest I have managed to get my garage in years! I would like to through more out, as my bike needs more room, but I can at least see it now.
-
Had this built in 1988, probably before many of you were born. Only 2 main regrets 1) Should have made the roof higher and 2) the doors wider.
-
If I had a garage like that there would be at least one more bike in it. That is a wonderful space. :thumb:
-
I don't need more space, just less space filled with stuff that might come in handy one day.
-
Here are mine, man cave, bike cave and storage cave
-
I am extremely jealous of that Suzuki GT(250?)
Same colour as my first bike.
-
Love that GT 185 mine was blue.
-
small but has seen a lot of action
recycled volvo penta engine boxes as shelving ,alarm to stop thieving bastards, painfully loud
Old filing cabinet for tools note bolt bowl
more tools red thing in middle is sag tool that allows you to use it alone
record no1 vice on corner bench,if I need more space I take it to work, power tools under
spare part worn tyres lots of old oil from changes trip to recycling in my future
my get to work bike 30 years old and still going strong, hand built on reynolds frame, top bar is 331/2 inches from ground! and yes that is an old tank bag on the back
-
More
bulkhead light mounted to board to put under bike when needed
My away bag from work, note folding chisels fantastic things to just throw it in a bag and go,not used it much on bike though
also carpet on floor, top one is sacrificial and will be replaced next time we refurb a boat ,note quick pressure and torque setting guide scrawled on wall, gets added to every time I have to look one up saves faff.
I don't buy tool kits anymore ,when I get a new bike if I need something new I'll buy individual tools like when I had to get torxs keys for the KTM,otherwise you end up duplicating so much
-
In the words of the esteemed gentleman below ..... "Deep in the Undergwoaf" .....
-
man you have no idea ,even though I put a 25mm threshold under the door, leaves blowing in is a boody nightmare
ho hum
-
Also good call ,one corner of my lounge,it's all like this I just like plants. I've got a couple on the other wall 10 foot tall they grow along the ceiling.
ho hum
-
Blimey, almost looks like my living room ..
-
lol
-
I think yours would probably smoke better than mine.
ho hum
-
But I do get bored easy..................

I've finally got around to installing a Yale alarm system to the garage. It's been on the to-do list for sometime but with yet another holiday coming up (Alsace, wine week) I thought 'get Your finger oot lad'. Sorted and working perfectly, at least it's a bit of a deterrent and my neighbours garages look much more of an attractive proposition now compared to mine...
Front & rear pic's.
