Starting issues 2009 650
« on: May 05, 2024, 12:22:16 »
Came out to garage this morning . Switch on fuel pump primed ,hit starter . Nothing just the front lights dimming . No clicking etc bumped it off first time no issue at all . Ride out came back and same again . Priming and Dim lights . Am thinking it’s battery related . I have 12.1 V showing across the battery but nothing . Got to wait until neighbour comes back back to bump it off again and get a reading when running . Wanted to check to see if I should be looking elsewhere but battery

A fully charged battery, left for an hour to settle should read ( in an ideal world ) 12.6 volts.
12.1 is on the low side.

My Money is on a battery being past it's best.
As has been said, anything below 2.4 volts, either needs to be charged if it's been stood for a while or a sign it's dyeing.
My guess would be if you read the voltage while hitting the starter, the voltage will likely drop into 10v  or under. - eg a battery cell failed.

MDS Batteries have been my go to place online for various batteries for years.
Often cheaper inc postage than the local places are to pick it up.

But I also pick up Motobatt batteries from M&P's as they're local and will price match

Always nice when it's an easy fix.
