Is the fully synth 5w/40 OK in the Strom?

I would have thought no, it's interesting, the fully synth is only in 5w-40, but the semi is in 10w-40

that's what I thought, but looking around on the internet, it seems some people do run 5w-40 in the vstrom. So I duno, I've still got half a bottle of Halfords 10W-40 that I was going to put in the next oil change, was just contemplating sticking some fully synth in to see what it is like.

At a stupid 3.5k service interval you will see/get no difference.
I've used 10w40 car oil recently and the was no performance difference, the clutch was fine but the oil was screwed by 2,000 miles. Please please please lets not have another debate about oil- I'll loose the will to live... 10w40 in a motorcycle oil. synth or semi synth will be all the same at 3.5k miles.

That'll do for me. I'd heard fully synth makes for smoother shifting.

Fresh oil, no matter if it's semi or fully synth, always makes the shift feel a little smoother for me. It can't be placebo effect every time as I'd usually forgotten that I changed the oil by the time I ride it again after :)

Semi if you change at the 3.5k interval, fully if you want to stretch the service interval (long trip?) of if you're feeling flush.
