I'm getting 403 errors when trying to preview posts, and letters with French accents are changed to question marks. Wot's going' on?
-
Are you wearing a 'gillet jaune' RN?
Seriously, could this be teething probs with the new host? I don't preview posts.
-
I'm going to preview this post.
-
What I am seeing is an SSL Certificate error. I'll sort it tomorrow, too tired now.
-
Trying to write Provencale with a cedilla. Took away the c and put in a ? instead.
And my "hello" viz vest ( thanks, filter) is in the top box, just in case. Along with spare bulbs, specs and absolutely no breathalysers.
-
It could be the language settings in your browser?
? ??
-
I take that back, it does it to me too. I'll have a look tomorrow.
-
OK, there is a solution to this, it involves converting the database (UTF-8) and associated language files.
It's a real ball ache (with the potential to go horribly wrong). I have to ask myself if the use of foreign characters is often enough to warrant the disruption?
On a brighter note, I did fix the SSL error.
-
No. Forget the foreign characters, definitely. The occasional apostrophe and pound sign were being replaced with question marks, though. Don't know if that's the same issue. "Potential to go horribly wrong" would suggest leaving stuff alone.

Well, look at me çčþßr
-
Show off.
What was it?
-
The Americanism filter was in Trump mode. It wouldn't allow anything foreign!
-
I took the plunge and converted the database to UTF-8. :thumb:
-
It hasn't changed anything :GRR:
-
Hasn't changed anything?
The site now accepts the international characters, what other issues are you seeing?
-
Silly me! I thought I wrote the word "retrospectively' in my post. I must have inadvertently deleted it ###
-
Merçi.
-
Ah, no the upgrade won't change anything posted before the change.
-
I'm still getting 403 "FORBIDDEN" errors when trying to post or preview.
-
Every time you post? Can you be specific with the conditions/symptoms?
-
Just occasionally, when I hit the preview or post button, a white page with a large 403 and "forbidden" appears. I will screenshot the next one, see if there is any more info on there.
-
24/12/18, trying to post a reply to Wurzel's "C&A" comment, I got this......
-
Thanks, did you preview or just post?
-
That was an attempted preview.
-
OK, thanks, can you see if you can make it happen again?
-
Ill ty.... If this post succeeds, I have failed. It seems totally random
-
The host has whitelisted a security whatsit, let me know if it happens again :thumb:
-
Any recurrence?
-
No. And it wasn't confined to one device, either. Happy Mahogany, as the Scotch say.

Howdie dodie daydie , people,
Just read the post re spelling etc, uhm !, I've read back through my own postings and it looks like it happened here to, in my case it looks like I'm a right pillock (it just did it again... Pillock turned into Pollock!) It's seams to be down to the auto spell / presumptive checker. At this time I can't find a way to switch it of, if I could I'd either kick it in the nuts or better still,. Spit in its eye and flood it's memory! :groan: post things these auto contraption s, right let's see what this turns out as when I post it.
Cheers for now

-
That is a setting on your phone John, not a setting on the forum.
-
Yes John, that is the speil chucker in your phone.
-
Is a pollock with only one bollock a pillock?
-
Is anyone going to tell him about the 'Americanism' filter ?
-
403 Forbidden error again just now. Typed a reply to a post, hit preview, got the 403. Tried again, won't let me preview a reply if it has an emoji in. Odd.
-
Rusty,
Was this a one off or can you recreate it? I have the hosts looking at it and they want the following;
1.) The time and date of the error
2.) The URL the 403 error occurred on
3.) Your IP address at the time of the error
-
I am getting 403 error usually when I try to post the pictures. Either from external sites or upload here. Also sometimes site don't respond at all. It is like that since last week.
-
Could you try to recreate the error and let me have the following,
1.) The time and date of the error
2.) The URL the 403 error occurred on
3.) Your IP address at the time of the error
-
I couldn't recreate it using my work pc (Linux based) will try at home where usually was happening.

Looks like is working. What was the problem?

It was a mod_security setting relating to the forum software.
