Hello all, I own a Suzuki GSX 650F.... but not for much longer, I've bought a DL650 VStrom!!!
Went to my local dealer yesterday and found a lovely 2012 model with 11,000 miles on the clock, sooooooooooooooo looking forward to collecting it next week.

Anything I need to know having not ridden one before?

Nice to make your acquaintance everyone.

Andy

hello wilmot, and  :welcome:

have a look at this thread about which modifications from 2012

http://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=13152.msg115424#msg115424

maybe start a new thread for up to date opinions in the 'V Strom specific' area?

In the meantime, congratulations on the bike - a good choice [I am biased!]

Hello Andy. Welcome.

I moved from a GSF650S (via a GSX1250) to a 2017 DL650 and am very pleased with it. The most immediate difference I noticed was the powerful engine braking, making it much easier to ride "on the throttle". Although the 650 Bandit had more horsepower, it needed spinning up to find it, whereas the V-Strom pulls strongly all the way from low revs and the wide bars make more responsive to hustle in the twisties. The mpg and accompanying range make it great at touring.

On the downside (there's always one), I found the seat too high and even with the Suzuki lower seat it has taken me a while to adjust. But that's short legs, as issued, for Your.

Hope you enjoy your new bike as much as I do.
