A bit less junk to carry if going to France this year.....
« on: January 11, 2020, 06:05:15 »
A bit of news that might be of use to anyone riding in France this year...... The requirement to carry a breathalyser kit has finally been scrapped, so don't be tempted to waste your hard earned money on them when going through any of the channel ports where they still try and flog them to you.

I've never carried one anyway and my understanding is, that certainly for the last few years is it hasn't been a legally enforceable requirement anyway. I've never bothered with the helmet stickers either and have never heard of anyone getting grief for that either. Every year there seems to be some new rules issued that are for the most part quietly ignored by the French public and police. I dare say that if you're caught doing silly things they may look for reasons to make things as unpleasant as possible but I'm sure French cops have better things to do than harass tourists. That's certainly been my experience over the last 40 years.

When traveling through France I've carried the bare minimum , just a high viz jacket and a spare headlight bulb and nothing else.

Spare specs. Good idea anyway, don't mind that one.

It was still a legal requirement to carry one but there was no penalty for not doing so if you can work that one out! It's the legal requirement that has now been scrapped, and about time. With regard to other "legal" things like reflective helmet stickers, CE approved gloves etc., no one takes a blind bit of notice. Just carry things that are sensible, practical and the necessary paperwork.
