new to the strom
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:05:17 »
hi there fellow strom troopers :)

I started riding just 6 months ago, actually that's a lie. I started riding about ten years ago but after a very very very bad off I revoked my licence vowing never to return to 2 wheels. what can I say, it's always in your blood.

anyway 6 months ago I retook all the test and bought me a yammy fz6. nice bike but gave me a really bad lower back and it was lacking grunt. had that for a mere 6 weeks before selling it for a profit of £50.

then I bought a k3 gsxr 750 and whoa boy is that a bike, no aches or pains just thrills a second. found myself getting faster on each ride out hitting 160mph on several occasions on roads that just aren't made for it. I have 2 young children and a lovely missus who wants to go to holland on the back.

so I went to the nec bike show last year to look at what enduro bikes were on offer. if I'm honest I fell in love with the bm 1200 adv and almost bought one untill I woke up and thought 13k for a bike is a little excesssive. on the same day I walked into drayton croft hinckley and bought me a strom 1000 and took delivery on 22nd dec 08. my first service was yesterday 28/2/09 and I have to say. I am seriously impressed with the strom. I'm going to leave at that for now before you get to bored reading.

I'd love to hear from you people out there with a passion for stromming  and any tips or advice would be most welcome.

Hi and thank you everyone for your reply's.

it's the first time for using a forum and I'm finding it a little on the confusing side so is there a users guide to the galaxy any where on this site?

so I had my first service the other day and I was surprised to find out that the factory settings on the fuel line inhibits the engines performance and exhaust notes. so they put that right and changed the oil and filter and when I rode away the bike felt like a different one altogether. which kind of got me thinking, can the bike ecu be re mapped to give better performance and economy without shortening the life of it's very heart. anyone?

if we could somehow tempt fellow bikers to test ride the strom I'm sure there would many conversions. I never thought for one minute that it would handle BETTER than my gixxa, but it really does. I'm surprised how easy it is to throw about and it sucks up the crappy uneven roads and potholes and poorly repaired roads. OK 118mph in second is a thing of the past and I do miss that missile like speed a little, but not enough to go back.

so whens the next meet or ride out?

and where's the best place to shop for accessories? like screens and bits to make your bike more unique.
