Tempted - So tempted
« on: September 13, 2018, 18:27:56 »
Hello all,

I'm currently stuck in that annoying frame of mind where I think I want to swap the bike, but all I'm doing is trying to convince myself the keep the old bus. I know what I want to swap to, and I think I can afford to do it (just), but there's something genuinely heartbreaking about writing a for sale ad for the Super Ten. Shes become such a good "friend" and has never let me down over the last 36thou. Yes she has her moments as they all do, but there's some attachment there, especially as I proposed to the Mrs on one of the trips.

How do you blokes get round this? Have I become too attached?

Also, does anyone want to buy a super tenere?

Cheers
Josh

I had to part with a much loved motorcycle on more than one occasion. It is not easy but there were compelling reasons that I could not avoid on most of them. Did I have regrets later. Of course, but not sufficiently for me to go back to the one I parted with. I had moved on........

I suggest that You write down the pros and cons of the change and then look them over before making a decision one way or another.

One thing to keep in mind. The novelty of a new bike does tend to flatten out a little when the mileage starts to rack up. That is when the regrets can come back to roost. Also, some of the machines You are looking at may be streets more powerful than the ST, but that does not mean that You will ride them any quicker on your fave roads. Usually it is better suspension that facilitates better and quicker riding. However sometimes a new machine can rejuvenate a flagging period in your motorcycling and that is one positive for change.

I must be shallow, I really enjoy a bike until the next shiny thing that makes great vroom, vroom noises turns my head.

Man up!

it can be the smallest thing that initiates the thought, I loved the 650 strom I had ,, then one day I took my brother on the back, and I thought !!!?????  a bit more power is what I want, so did the deal and got FR's Tiger. Now my brother has never been pillion since, and has no desire to!!    But up until now nothing has happened to make me want to change the Tiger,,,, what has initiated the thought in your head..

Those horns at the end of those dilemmas are indeed very uncomfortable.

I was fortunate in that I had the space and had saved up sufficient funds to allow me to buy the Thunderbastard and keep the Nail out of pure sentiment. The Cagiva has been well and truly relegated to be nothing more than a garage oddity, things are now stored on top of it. This suprises me as I was adamant that I would keep it forever as the emotional bonds seemed so strong. The issue isn't that the Cagiva is terrible, it's far from that. It's brilliant for what it is, a 17 year old TL 1000 engined nutter that fits me perfectly and handles like a dream.

The issue is the KTM is simply outstanding in comparison.

I didn't realise I was this shallow. :icon_no:

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

There are things we need and things we want. IMHO "wants" always trump "needs".
So then ... what do you want?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I love the old XRV750, the newer CRF1000 are good but too many faults with them for my likeing... I worked in a dealer and there are too many to list.  lol
And the 15-16 year bikes were tall enough that I nearly need to reach for the floor (34" inside leg, so no short arse here)
The '18 model squish my nads everytime I had to get on one with the standard seat in standard position.

KTM - OK their quality control has come a long way in the last few year so I may be tempted.
In 18 months or so I going to be looking to maybe replace the Varadero and the 1050/90 may be an option (if mileage stays this low it will stay longer)

Or the Tiger 800 but I'm not sure if I could give up the big twin and ride a 3 cylinder (My OCD doesn't like odd numbers either)
Same power as the Varadero with 20kg weight saving.

It's all about needs and wants...
I WANT a bike with 100+ HP
I NEED it lighter than 240kg dry (Varadero)

Looks like I won't be getting much more than 100HP then.

You need:
A bike capable of being loaded with all the camping gear for two (including kitchen sink) and still have the power to have a little fun.
Also reliability.
You want:
200HP in an adv bike.

You buy:
A DL1000/S10 and a Motolug trailer  lol

Josh... take out the new DL1000, yes it's beakey, yes it's plastic fantastic... but has a stonking engine. Propper old school grunt beats revvy red line hunters everyday if you're counting fun factor.
(Yes I have been riding Jen's bike this week and it always puts a smile on my face  :auto-dirtbike:)

Test ride, test ride, test ride.
