Ride to Applecross 1
« on: December 22, 2017, 11:26:11 »
Hello Everyone,
A few people have asked me to put my ride to Applecross on here so after a couple of days trying and help from a few people I think I've managed to do it lol I was told to upload it to Youtube then put the link on here so hope it works ?

I set off to ride to Skye at ten o clock in the evening and rode through the night and got to "Green Welly stop" just before dawn was breaking then I rode onto Fort William for breakfast and on towards Skye before turning off the "A87" to ride over the top to Applecross.

The video starts just befor I turned off the A87

I'm not sure you have been..   your road doesn't look like the narrow rough surfaced ridiculously steep road with many hairpins that I rode..  that was my point..   you seem to have a middle white line all the way and never slow to any first gear uphill hairpins..  Did you start or finish at The Applecross Inn ??

Looking forward to traveling over that. How does it compare with Wrynose and Hardknott?  I remember those as being more "twisty"!

That’s a really enjoyable video, Hessy, and very nostalgic. We lived in Wester Ross for ten years from ‘94 and are very familiar with Applecross and the whole of that stunning west coast. If you get the chance, go all the way up the West via Torridon, Gairloch, Poolewe, Ullapool and Lochinver. Fabulous!

Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it very much.

Hessy,
2 nice videos there.
Nice too that that car driver moved over for you. And what a bonus that you had good weather as well  :text-goodpost:

Hello Everyone, Thank you for all your kind comments on the vids,
I've done Hard knott pass in the Lakes and yes it is very tight bends but this one tends to have longer straight bits between the bends.. and unfortunately the video doesn't do it justice.
Once you're over the top and down again to Applecross itself you can have a lovely lunch at the Aplecross in then you can take the coast road back round or go back over the top as the scenery is simply wonderful.

I haven't done the whole west coast road yet up to Ullapool etc but definitely doing it in 2018
also still want to dip my toes in the Fairy Pools!! Anyone else fancy a swim in the Fairy pools ??

The ride back over. I think it shows just how steep the road really is ..

That's better than watching the rubbish that's been on the box the last few days, who am I kidding, a few years more like. What fantastic weather too.

Thank you Lincsman,
Yes it was very warm and sunny for the end of September, I had been watching the weather very closely and as soon as they had a couple of days that looked good I was off  :sunny:

Great footage on that one, most impressive. It looks like a hell of a drop if it all goes tits up! Good video quality,  what camera and settings were you using? I'm just starting out on the learning curve with action cameras  etc.
