Insurance renewal...
« on: June 12, 2025, 13:55:48 »
So, when I picked my bike up in March I added it to my existing policy for a not insignificant sum and now it's time for renewal.

It's not cheap, but there's something I feel that's really odd about the policy.

I have 2 bikes, an old NC700X and my Strom.

Under the 'Endorsements for the Strom' it says in the "Warranted Secondary Security" section that I have to have "a secondary security device, such as a D lock, disclock, padlock and chain, immobiliser or other similar device"..

Well OK, I have one for the Strom but for my NC - which I've had since new is 2013 they've got

"Tracking/Satellite
We will not provide cover in respect of theft or attempted theft of your motorcycle unless: a) it has been fitted with
an approved tracking/satellite system and a copy of the installation certificate is sent to us at (1) the inception of
your policy,(2) if you change your motorcycle and (3) with your claim form; b) the device was activated and
working efficiently at the time of loss; c) all subscriptions are paid up to date; and d) the tracking/satellite company
is notified of the loss within four hours of you or any authorised person in control of your motorcycle,
discovering that it has been stolen."
..

Just, why would the requirement be for a tracker on the old winter hack bike and not the more expensive, newer Strom.

The NC also has the same "Warranted Secondary Security" section.

That's a good question. Another one night be have you shopped around for insurance to find a better company because that seems very onerous and aimed at getting out of a payout.

Hastings don't require either of these items on my bikes, for example.

Never stay loyal to any provider. Online search every time. Same again in 12 months time.

When I had two bikes, it was cheaper two have two separate policies from two different companies, than a multi bike policy from one company.

That was with full N/C’s on one bike, and zero N/C’s on the other….. beats me why, but it saved me several hundred pounds.🤷‍♂️

I can't begin to imagine how much the multi bike policy quote was if you saved several hundred pounds with two separate policies. Motor insurance will always will be a minefield for the unwary. As I mentioned before, stay loyal to none of them.
