Oil on spark DL650
« on: May 23, 2025, 23:20:34 »
Is this a problem? When changing the spark plugs I noticed that they are dirty with oil, only those in the rear cylinder. I noticed that after 3,000 km the oil level dropped by around 200 ml. Should I be worried? There is no smoke in the exhaust and no oil marks inside the exhaust muffler.

Morning Mateusdes,
Have you got the right sparkplug ?
I thought both options for the L2 ( std NGKMR8E-9 (For rest of world ) or iridium NGKCR8EIA-9 ( for EU/India  ) had just one electrode, is it a different recommendation in Brazil? , could be wrong I have an M2
When were the valve clearances last checked, if the rear ones are out , that could explain the plug condition being different from the front.
As to oil use , do you still have that leak from the engine mount?

To me, those spark plugs look like CR8EK, which I use on my Wee.
I could be mistaken, but to me, your spark plug threaded section appear to be covered with an anti-seizure paste and not oil.
Read more on the reason why it is best not to use anti-seize on the spark plug threads; http://www.ngkplugpro.ca/content/contentfiles/pdf/NGKSP-0907-1R-Anti-SeizeonSparkPlugs.pdf

The spark plug that was there was from the DL1000, I believe that the previous owner could not find the CR8E and put the CR8EK, the leak in the engine support has not occurred anymore since I changed the coils and cleaned the whole place, about the spark plug, it is really engine oil, the mechanic who accompanies me believes that it could be problems with the injector or irregular power for the fuel explosion and the unburned fuel is washing the cylinder walls and wetting the spark plug, he noticed smoke when it exceeds 7000 rpm which indicates failure in complete combustion for him.

Confirm is this oil on the spark plug from one or both cylinders. I'm not sure how changing the coils has helped reduce the oil on the spark plugs, unless one of the coils was breaking down. But then to me, the spark plug would have been wet from fuel not oil.

As a matter of interest, did you compare the coil resistance between the oid vs new coils?

Something else that comes to mind is oil blowby.  Have you checked inside your airbox, for signs of oil. Is the crankcase breather sponge / PVC still in good condition?
