Anyone got a fix for a slipping screen?
« on: July 15, 2024, 13:46:33 »
So my bike has an MRA screen on it and the bracket that you adjust the tilt keeps going slack when I ride, resulting in pushing back from the intended setting, no matter how tight I try and get the thumb screws 😫
Is there any hack which can fix this issue? Cheers

Is it a madstad bracket? I do up the lower bolts with a spanner and then tighten the thumbscrews. So if they come loose .... which they do .... then the lower bolts hold it steady. Means you can't adjust without a spanner.

The MRA on my Fazer 1000 did that.
In the end I put it in the preferred position then drilled a  tiny pilot hole and fitted a  self tapping screw to each side. No longer adjustable but stayed put.
Eventually replaced it with a Madstad.

Like Nidge says, find the sweet spot and lock it in place. Could you drill through the centre hole and put a small bolt through.

Madstad.
After a while the tiny fitted washers wear, then you have to do like cooltshirt says.
Though if you turn the knobs round to the inside it can work.

Madstad.
Excellent bracket in my opinion. Do up the lower bolts tight and that will hold it. Then all the upper ones do is stop it rattling. Once you have worked out the best position, you are unlikely to ever move it again.

Could you put some anti slip washers in between the fittings or maybe a rubber washer to grip better.

Thank you! I'll get the bottom ones done up really tight then. I wonder if I put a serrated washer on the top ones, if that might help it grip? 🤷‍♂️

Not sure  difficult to see in your pic, but they should have a recess for a circlip to stop them coming off. Note knobs fitted on inside here on my 650.

Cheers, I'll have a fiddle around when I've got some time and see what I can do. Thanks for the ideas. I'll post up if I'm successful 🤞😂

The earlier versions didn't have the circlips. I lost a screw in a long contra flow roadworks, no way to stop and look for it.
Belville washers may be a better bet than shakeproof, but a slight tweak on the existing fixings should provide enough friction to stop the slipping.

No circlips on mine. I tightened the bottom bolts up as much as I could, then took the thumb screws off one at a time and rotated the rubber washer and put back together with a dot of thread lock. Hopefully get out for a wee ride tomorrow after work and see what happens 🤞
