2015 DL1000 Throttle Body Assembly
« on: September 03, 2021, 19:45:14 »
2015 DL1000, 25K miles
Bike is idling at around 1800 rpm. F1 light is showing after a couple of hours riding.
My mechanic has taken the tank off, checked all hoses etc, but says my throttle body linkages are worn and I need a whole replacement unit, preferably with injectors. He recommends this as the price of individual parts would work out to be almost as much.
The new price is hefty, does anyone know where the best place would be to source a used part?

That sounds mad at 25k miles.

He said he has seen it on a few Suzukis in the past, not necessarily VStroms

What is the fault showing on the FI?

No idea Mick. He has a print out of something or other for me but I won't know what it is until I pick the bike up at the beginning the week. I'll be sure to let you know when I get it.

Chris, have a look at this link. It will give you an idea of what the FI (Fault Indication) can throw up. https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html

That's very useful Mick, thank you.
To be honest all of that stuff makes little sense to me as far as resolving issues is concerned. The problem (I think) is that the code will only show when the F1 light is on and in this case it's appearance is very unpredictable. Am I wrong?
My mechanic isn't a Suzuki specialist but he does seem like a smart and very sensible bloke.

If you read the full link you will see that you can run the bike in 'dealer mode' until the FI light shows the fault. When the code shows then you will know where the 'fault' is.
If you think your 'man' is smart enough, show him the link and maybe his diagnosis will change??  :thumb:

Have a look on Ebay Chris, I remember seeing some second hand throttle bodies on there. I'm at 37k miles now on my 15 with no trouble like this so far, touch wood.
Ps I think I remember reading on some forum or other another owner needing the same thing a few years ago.

Thanks porter
I think I've found another one. It's from a 2019 model whereas mine is a 2015 Desert Edition. When I checked the compatibility on the website it says it will fit a 2015 V-Strom A model but not an Adventure Sport model of the same year.
Does anyone know which one I have? I didn't know there was a difference.

The adventure sport was just an exhaust end can as far as I remember. The 17 on models do have a different wiring loom in places than the 14 on model so you might run into trouble, not 100% sure though.

We had a few L4-7 veeks in for throttle body replacement under warranty.

The linkages are known to wear to the point they require replacement. Most of these have been under 15k miles.

mr_diver, will a 2019 throttle body assembly fit a 2015 model?

I saw them but I've bought a set, complete with injectors, from a bike that had only covered 1800 miles. Hopefully they'll fit :thumbs up:

I found mine in holland, I just googled 2015 DL1000 throttle bodies and found a 2nd hand pair, worked out about £160 including postage. my replacement was due to the secondary throttle actuator failure
