Title: Optimate connection
Post by: jimi28smith on August 05, 2021, 06:28:00
Hi all, I’ve got an optimate which on previous bikes I’ve plugged in through the 12v socket. On those machines the 12v socket was an open circuit (not turned on and off by the ignition) and was made for the propose of trickle charging.

Does anyone know if the same is true of the 12v socket on the 2018 Vstrom 1000? Has any one used it for this? Thanks

It’s not an open circuit and is defiantly switched off with the ignition, we’ve got the same bike,  I ran a fly lead from the battery that exits just near the seat on the left hand side.
Doubles as a power supply for heated clothing in the winter if you use that sort of thing, and when not in use has a rubber cover that closes off the connector (Sportsbikeshop do them)

The  battery fly leads cost about £9.90 I have also seen them used to power heated grips or to power a Satnav.
