Screen Solution for 6ft6 bloke
« on: May 09, 2015, 22:31:49 »
Just so I'm clear on what I've read so far.

Best solution found by all to minimise buffeting is;

Givi airflow screen + madstad?

and aprilia mirrors?

Excuse the spelling. :)

Man up and buy bigger shirts due to increased neck size - after riding a naked bandit for 5 years - the vstrom is like a breath of fresh air - don't know why I chose to ride a naked bike for all those years - that's when you really get hammered by the wind !!!

Yup..... if that doesn't work I don't know what you could do next.

I've 3 different screens and mirrors for my Glee but that combo is by miles the best at eliminating buffeting. I'm only 5' 10" though but I've got everything on the lowest settings possible.... no need to raise anything at all and I now ride with my visor up all the time. For me it was money well spent.

I'm also 6'6". My Glee came with a Givi AirFlow fitted but I struggled to set it up to avoid buffeting. I tried it with a palmer bracket which helped things, but I still wasn't satisfied. I have settled on an MRA X-Creen (brilliant with or without palmer bracket). I have also got mirror extenders recently from eBay and was surprised at how much difference they made to visibility....does make it tricky filtering into London rush hour traffic though!

Can you advise what mirror extensions you brought.

I'm tempted to buy a 180 degree bubble mirror for front screen. Visibility looks amazing.

I'm with MartinW on this. I'm 6'7" and have tried various setups. The holy grail of being able to ride at 70mph with my helmet visor up has eluded my every attempt. It's either learn to live with it or buy another bike.

Sorry to sound a bit negative on this one Ace, but at our kind of heights you can throw an awful lot of money at this "problem" and not find a solution. The other things we recommended to you (Touring Seat, Footpeg Kit, Bar Risers) will all be a big help, but the screen solution is going to be "hit and miss" I'm afraid.

I too came from a bandit (MK1) and Most Certainly appreciate what a difference the V-strom is!

I went for the Madstad bracket ( amazing  :thumb: ) and a Slipscreen screen from Ebay and it worked brilliantly for me!
I'm not quite as tall as you chaps only standing at 6ft 3in Myself!

I smashed it to pieces when I came off the other week and am currently trying to decide whether to try a Givi touring screen ( not the airflow) or stick to what I know and get another slip screen!

If you want another slipscreen I'll sell you mine. The thing I wanted to try didn't work so I may as well let it go.

X Screen fitted onto std screen works for me I'm 6ft however I'm just looking over the XScreen it could go a lot higher, and maybe it will in heavy rain. I can ride at decent speed with my visor open, hope that helps.

I just got some off eBay that lift the mirrors about 20mm and push them out around 40mm. Cost less than £20 for the pair.

don't worry, I was just teasing,

Fitting the givi tomorow, will see what its like, along with foot pegs and dog bone jackup.

Forgot about the bar risers!!!! but still abit worried about how far the cables can stretch, havent learnt how to replace / play with clutch and brake cable yet.

Buying the mirror extenders now though, think I just need hieght to make them useable.

aNYone used a riderscan yet. still really tempted.
