Title: Long awaited 650cc topbox adaptor plate!
Post by: cymarceng on June 18, 2010, 14:28:10
To all memebers - firstly let me apologise for the `gap`, I have been sooooooooooooooooo busy with life, my day job, placating the Beemer Boys and drinking red wine and time has slipped me by.

Yonks ago and after the success of the bespoke V Strom.co.uk stuff (http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk (http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk) refers) many members asked me for an adaptor plate to move the topbox back alittle to allow pillions more comfort.

Well, at long last I have finally managed to get my fetid rotting corpse into gear and I hope to have it nailed by next week with the help of Graham daniels in Sheffield.

For now I can tell you that it is made out of stainless (as is all my clobber), carries the `V` logo on it and will not only look great (as does all my tackle - must be careful how you say that   ) but will do a good job!

Images to follow next week........................

Sorry mate, yes I know - its quite an embarressing thing to take 6 months (how long   ) to get round to do doing this but I have been so busy and lucky enough to be making bespoke stuff for clients in Finland, Israel, USA and Oz and it all takes so much time all this `I am the New Messiah` stuff  :))) .

In between that I have been touring France (which was brill).

But anyway, less waffle - sorry again and I'm pleased you are now sorted.

Funny that - "where`s my cut fo the suggestion"

Ride safely,

Mark.

What happened to your visit to sunny Wales  :GRR:

Mate, sorry, I know the kind invite was there but neither me or Rickly (flyingscot) managed to get the time and before we knew it France was upon us. We did think of the pre-arranged bash, though, and I think we would have been there if we had not arranged France ages ago. By the way, his Strom broke down on the second day! (broken throttle cable).

I am still hoping to get over sometime, hopefully with Ricky but waht with his job (pig scum filth traffic cop) and mine (Master of the Universe   ) then I really don't know..................

Nonetheless, I hope you are fine, I had a member with me a few weeks ago for a full 1000cc `fit` and oh what a nightmare that was but it all got sorted in the end!

regards,

Mark.

P.S. Do you want one of these brackets once I`ve finished it next week?

Andy, this is the very kind email John sent me after the `Fit from Hell` - do you know if he did indeed post `owt?

Hi Mark,

Just a quick email to thank you for your valuable time and hospitality today. It was a pleasure to meet with you, and an education to watch you work on the bike.

The gear change enhancer has made the gear changing silky smooth (as you said it would), and the chain guard, radiator and oil cooler covers etc., make the bike look really special. Can’t thank you enough for all the effort you put into the modifications today, it really is appreciated.

The bike looks gorgeous, and the new ‘bling’ will very-likely attract interest from other motorcycle enthusiasts.  Absolutely no hesitation in recommending your ‘custom components’ to other bikers.

Will post pictures and appropriate comments on the V-Strom site ASAP

Hope you have a good holiday

PS Will definitely be purchasing your next batch of ‘goodies’ for the V-Strom – please send an email as soon as anything new is available.

Once again, many thanks.

Best regards

John ‘chuffed-to-bits’ Harrison

We have another meet here end of August if you can make it?

I had a run over to marcs place today to have a final fit of the adaptor plate. It fits perfectly and moves the topbox back about 8cm. Its easy to fit although you do have to drill a couple of holes in the original top box plate. It looks the dogs danglies in stainless with a very nice ' v ' cut into the rear. The seat is now easily removed without have to take the topbox off. Marc says he will post pictures and a price later when he has time. Marc is a very nice genuine bloke  :thumb:  (although he's a borderline alcoholic coz I lost count of the times he mentioned wine   ) so it was a pleasure to meet him and I have to go back as I want one of his chain guards. (and I owe him wine).

Ha, Graham (firestrom) is a good geezer but my spidey senses detect that he can`t drink to save his life - not once did he mention wine apart from promising, on the lives of all his born and unborn children, that he will bring me some  :thumb:

So, back to the part and once again soooooo many apologies for the wait. It`s partially too busy, too drunk or can`t be arsed. Whatever reason I am sincerely sorry for the wait with most of my time being taken up with the Beemer Boys (they don't fart like us you know) and keeping them happy  :shy:

Here it is, it`s as easy as Graham sez and all you have to do is re-drill the holes for the rubber bungs (Graham had used arse plugs because they tasted funny when I licked them - novel twist, liked it) 80mm to the rear of the rack. Then all you do is bolt it on and enjoy the extra space and the fact you don't have to saw the Strom in half to get your seat off.

No idea about price, in honesty haven`t got a f*cking clue but I`ll come up with something. Give me an idea of interest and I`ll get some made once I have come up with a price. If I get chance I`ll stick it on my site with a price I have `made up` and you all can take 10% off if you want one but YOU MUST SEND ME WINE

By the way, Graham relocated all his fasteners with copper grease - I cannot support that enough, too many times have I found the strom fasteners turn to blutack after a winter or so - good man  :thumb:

By the way and as usual my gear has been overengineered until my eyes bled, is sexy, made from stainless steel and you can kick it round your estate and it will still work.

Jeez can anyone remind me how to post an image!

marc must have been pissed when he wrote that coz you don't have to drill holes to fit the rubber bungs   the holes for the rubber bungs are already there, the holes that need to be drilled are to re locate the little pegs that the top box slots onto.  :thumb:

Marc did you notice what flavour curry I had the night before when you tasted the bungs?  lol
Title: Re: Long awaited 650cc topbox adaptor plate!
Post by: cymarceng on June 23, 2010, 20:41:19
Yeah, Sorry, what I meant was that you had to redrill the holes for the plate, NOT for the arse plugs  - I got confused as I had to drill out the arse plug holes if you remember?

I sensed Korma with a little lime pickle and, strangely, KY Jelly....................

And yes, I was more than likely `imbibed`, how on earth do you think I manage

Title: As an aside
Post by: cymarceng on June 24, 2010, 19:38:29
Hiya, as an aside some of you may realise I do some stuff for the Beemer Boys (remember, the ones who don't fart like us men?).

Anyway, to be fair they are a cracking bunch of geezers as most of the UK bike fraternity tend to be anyway, whatever the marque they ride.

To fess up I do ride, amongst other stuff, an R1200GS which I bought after riding my mates DL1000 (which is still a comfier ride!). Anyway less bollocks, here`s something I made up for the GS and GSA blokes - they are a little more hard core then most of us and have demanding criteria for quality and stuff which can be dragged around the world (quite literally). It`s a bbq which I am developing and can be flatpacked to fit inside a beemer pannier. I think it`s shagging great and I have tried to sleep with it twice already (sadly the holes are too big if you know what I mean).

I`d be happy to develop one to fit a strom pannier and put, of course, V Strom across the top like the rad covers I make you blokes. Any interest? The images show it assembled (it just slots together) and flat packed. Its made from high quality stainless and will quite possibly outlive me.

Post by: cymarceng on June 24, 2010, 19:39:39
blokes, this item IS NOT for sale yet as I need to develop it further, it`s just for your information and feedback.

I hope to have nailed the topbox adaptor by Sunday if I can stay sober long enough. Woohoo.

Update:

Hi all, I am testing the bbq this weekend (in fact as I post!) as I want to make sure it is fit for purpose and not just a work of art. So far I have established:

1. 0.9mm stainless, to save weight, is simply not up to the job - there are others on the market (not like mine) and one person reports that the thin one buckles and you can't fold it back up. So, the 2mm one seems to be the way to go. Thin = cheap to buy (woohoo) but shite if you want something to last. I am going for the `something to last` direction.

2. It also needs a tray to catch the ash, I`ll also design it so it can double as a cover.

3. Price wise I have no idea but wet finger in the air and it`ll be around the £80 mark I guess.

Once I`ve done a full test I`ll let you blokes know as I ain't selling `owt till it`s as good as I can make it. My reputation for madness, alcoholism, quality and sometimes `odd` service forbids!

Funny man.

Robby? North of the river? Purchased a chainguard from me ages ago? Didn`t it fail due to the additonal off roading you were doing or something like that?

You dropped it off at my factory, remember?

If so, I made a specially reinforced one just for you as a replacement shortly thereafter - it`s in a bag with `For that dodgy geezer Rob who can`t drink like a man` written on it! It`s been there for ages, I thought you had forgotten about it!

It`s free mate, if any extra cost might have concerned you? owt which ain't right or won`t last and comes from me is always replaced FOC regardless of the reason so COME AND GET IT    or do you want me to post it to you?

Anyway, so far so good with the testing, going to cook lunch on the bbq shortly and report back............

Fitted my adapter plate yesterday and it was a piece of cake!  The only swearing fit I had was with the Suzuki rubber buffers, they are a pig to remove, a fine slotted screwdriver and some washing up liquid soon had them out though!  Jen sat on the bike and thought it made a big difference to her comfort, hopefully she'll be back on the bike soon, she's barely comfortable driving since her car crash and still has flashbacks at junctions, just have to give it time.

Many thanks to Mark for making and shipping it so quickly, It arrived in three business days as promised.   :ty: I would have liked to fit it sooner but I was working near Detroit so it had to wait until the weekend.  I don't know how the Royal Mail can get a package from Scunthorpe to here in three days via regular air mail, but Canada Post can't get a letter fourteen miles in five days!
