Title: Bad rubber?
Post by: bonne on July 10, 2021, 10:54:17
I started to notice some marks on my rear tyre - The bike is only 1 year old, so I expect that the Tyres are somewhat similar. Is tyre wear like what I marked with red in the pictures common after 9000 km?

I was planning to buy similar stock Tyres what they needed swapping, but maybe I should look for another brand/type?

Regards, Lars.

Hardly "bad rubber". Just worn after 9000KM. I got 6000KM from the back. Still legal, but squared off. I think these A41 are really good for grip. Never had a moment.

So you are saying that even though there are enough rubber left, they should be changed?

Rear tyre seems to be from 2019

But front has a label saying 2012. I read here in another thread that the A41 was developed in 2017, so that one I really do not understand?

That isn't the date code on the front: try looking again, maybe on the other side - should be 4 numbers in a box by themselves, just like you found on the rear.

I don't think there's any age related issue with the tyre: that's just some feather wear at the edge of where you've ridden it to, and it's the worn down middle that will determine when to change.

Looks fine to me. If you look hard enough you can always convince yourself something is wrong even when it isn't.

Have a look at the info shared, aka "Look for the date code in an oval stamp on your tyre’s sidewall. The numbers represent the week and year of manufacture." explained in https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/do-motorcycle-Tyres-have-shelf-life/ and https://www.chapmoto.com/blog/2017/09/01/motorcycle-tyre-knowledge-tune-up-what's-with-all-those-letters-and-numbers/

The tyre looks normal, my A41 on the rear looks exactly the same, got about 5600 miles on it now.  :thumb:
