Glad you like them, though the picture doesn't really show how bright they are. I used super glue but anything will do really.  :thumb:

I rode up to Aberystwyth and back yesterday, some 210 miles and the furthest I've been since lockdown. Good to get "back into the groove!" (). I'd forgotten how much fun the Glee is on twisty back roads, and when wound up a bit on the dual-carriageways!

I gave my 2018 V-Strom 1000 a clean and fitted this rather good accessory. It's a protective guard for the exhaust valve. I think it looks quite neat and only 10 quid too.

Is that exhaust valve cover "butch bling" of does it have a purpose?  I guess the designer holes in it allow the muck in just the same but make it somewhat more difficult to get it out. Can you still get at the adjusters?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Superbiker_uk, The original protector looks feeble, I too would have fitted a better one. A lot of people seem to protect every inch of their bike with bling and just ad weight but, to me anyway, that is not bling but a necessity that should be standard.
Good things rarely come to those who wait, best go out and get them while you can before it's too late.

I love seeing pictures of bikes all Touratwatted to the hilt as if they're off on the Dakar, yet sitting on purely road tyres outside a cafe somewhere. Generally Bavarian, but it has leeched out into other brands.
As for that particular thing, I'm kind of form over function on it. Are there more valves damaged by passing large stones than fail due to gritty water getting in about them & not cleaned out?

Hello Brockett, I guess primarily it looks better IMO. It is meant to be functional in terms of protection of the exaust valve adjusters which can still be accessed with it installed. However, for ease, I would remove it (takes 30 seconds) to do any adjustments.

that's a new one on me "touratwatted"? My V-Strom is basically as supplied by Suzuki. As for road tyres, I only ride on the road (definately not going off to the Dakar any time soon.....).

The bracket does improve the looks IMO and clearly it offers some additional protection - which may or may not be required. Anyhow, I like it.

I managed to get a bit of time in the garage today and have double checked the valve clearances are all in spec as it was a while since I've been looking at it. All OK  :lala:  (I think I started this on 6th June but haven't had much time to continue).

I also painted the coolant union joint and cleaned the air filter/box.

hopefully I can start some reassembly tomorrow  :fix:

The air filter and air box sponge have finally dried out and were pretty grim  :-x much better now.
Not much progress today though I did refit the cam chain guide. I had been hoping to get the engine covers back on and the radiator refilled but I've caught the spray painting bug, so I cleaned up a few cylinder cover bolts (a dremmel makes it mich easier) so have been waiting for them to dry (will post some pics of them tomorrow).

“Sponge?”,is that an extra,I don't have one of those in my air cleaner.
As a point of interest, in the 1970’s I worked for a haulage contractor and we used to wash our “dry” air cleaner elements in a bath of soapy water using washing powder, we had several spares so always had a dry one to swap at service time.No doubt someone will come back and say that's a “no,no”,but it worked for us.

You should have a breather filter on a K9 - item 6 on the parts list. It's there to catch the oil mist that comes up the breather to save the main filter as I understand it.
As far as washing filters goes, I wouldn't try it with the basic paper jobs, but anything fabric based is worth a shot - it was going in the bin anyway so if it works, then bonus round for the filter...

Aah, the breather filter,I have one of those,I think the enlarged photo threw me a little as looks quite a lot larger than it is in real life.I thought it was a pre-filter or similar.Washing will work with paper filters, just be careful you are not too rough with it and let the soapy solution work.Plus don't use an airline on it, let it dry naturally.
