DL 1000XT 2019 end can
« on: March 03, 2021, 19:29:52 »
Hello Folks, looking for some advice.  Thinking of changing the end can on my Strom 1000XT (2019) with the hope of getting a bit more horse power/torque.  Been looking at threads but cannot find info as to effect on power with the end cans discussed. Can anyone reccommend an end can that sounds nice and gives a bit more horse power/torque without remapping etc. The Holy Grail I know, but worth a punt.

To be honest I don't think you'll find any more horse power with just an end can. I've tried two, fuel and remus. The fuel can made the bike stumble at low revs plus was too loud for me, the remus is OK on both. I change back an forth between the remus and the oe can and I think my bike runs better on the oe, pulls better low down and I like the quiet life!

Any claimed gains without ancillary work will be marginal. I replaced the cans on the KTM and I'm not sure there's any difference. On paper maybe, but in reality; no.
The straight swap can market is geared for looks & sound. Or removing the cats that were a serious burn risk as the case was for me on the 990.

A bit more noise:- tick.  Improved looks  :- tick.  but the best reason. for me,  is to lose two thirds of the weight of the OE thing.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

For a slight boost in power, maybe you could have look into flashing the ECU or installing a power commander.  Have you had a look at https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=38514.0 ?

Agree with the others above, negligible gains with just an end can. Holy grail indeed :(

On my 2017 DL1000 I've got the delkevic end can, delkevic decat mid pipe, Servo removed and PCFC fitted and it goes like the clappers now after a visit to dynojet. All in it cost me around £800, but worth it, especially as some end cans can cost alone nearly half of that.

There is no point in replacing if you are looking for a performance gain as these are next to nothing, unless of course, you have experience in running a racing team, engineering skills, have the relevant software and happy to replace engine parts.

Chances are you will save weight, you will definitely have a better-looking system in place, and you might improve the note (I do not refer to noise). Most cans require a remap and there is a holy grail to be found sometimes when it comes to remapping and not having to undo the remap for the MOT. The only three cans I have come across on any manufacturer that fists the bill for sounding nice (not loud), weight saving, looks good and still MOT compliant are Remus (superb build quality and my choice), Leo Vince and Ackro (when developed with the manufacturer - Arrow also fall into this category with Triumph).

In a nutshell, it's not really worth it. The manufacturer puts the most R&D into the exhaust after the engine.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to advise on my end can query.  Going to adopt the principle that if it is not broken, don't fix it.  Keeping the staus quo.

Not sure you get any more power from an end can alone but mines got a Yoshimura can which is lighter, better looking and makes a decent noise without being too loud.
