Another one
« on: May 30, 2015, 09:13:41 »
I am a traitor, there I have said it.

As I get older, unfortunately, my legs don't get any longer and it was time for a change.
The little DL went to a new home a few weeks ago.
I bought it new in 2009 put 26,000mls on it, thrashing on Sundays and taking the boss around Europe.
The bike never missed a beat until I went to sell it, the new owner got 10 miles up the road then the bike died, he wasn't happy ! ( the reg/rectifier died). The bike was fixed and now he is happy.

I wanted to buy the new DL1000 but it is just too tall which is a shame as I like the bike and would have bought one, I tried all the other adventure bikes they are pretty much the same seat height, the Aprilia Caponord is a little bit lower but the low chassis 1200 GS is a full   1 1/2" lower than the Vstrom, that did it for me plus the Boss says it is more comfy.

Downsides;
Cost -- don't ask!
Shit gearbox
Eats rear tyres
Eats rear brake pads (how the linked brakes work)
Seems to be a nail magnet, 3 punctures in 6000mls

So far I am happy with the new bike and can't see me coming back to anything else unless they start bringing lower versions out. I believe about 25% of GS's sold recently are the lower chassis version.

I will keep poking my nose in here and putting my oar in occasionally .

Welcome to the corner of ill repute  :grin:
It's pronounced 'twenty-one-twelve'
