I need a low seat in my tent so I can sit off the floor / ground. A standard height chair is too tall for my tent and at my age I struggle to get off the floor. I don't want one of those three legged stool things as they wreck groundsheets and sink in soft ground. I was thinking of making a wooden box to fit in my Kirky bag. Any other suggestions?

An inflatable one.
-
bought one last year. This year I found it had split in storage. :groan:
-
You could always take an inflatable lady ..... and if she has a split in her .... its supposed to be there ....
-
Could serve many purposes other than a chair .. but brocket would have even more trouble getting up .. :groan: .!!

:angry-tappingfoot: :GRR:  :old: :bawl:

How about one of THESE? (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Small-folding-Step-Stool-Colours/dp/B002UYPZ04/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1440096371&sr=8-2&keywords=step+stool) They fold down to nothing, weigh almost nothing and will support 120Kg.
My wife uses one to reach into the top of her wardrobes. They are plenty sturdy enough and the footprint should be enough to stop it sinking in grass.
-
Hmm! that shows promise.
-
I have one .... not very good if you have dodgy knees like me though.

Aluminium Panniers?

Not sure of weight, but not bad. Comes with a bag. Field tested and haven't collapsed on me or owt! :)

I have one of those, they pack up small and are very light too. The poles flex, but they can carry a lot of weight. Both Locky and Gray also have these, I tried theirs before buying mine. I find it very comfortable to sit in and I've event sat sleeping in it without falling over/getting uncomfortable. The feet will get stuck in the mud if it's soft, but they only slide in to a point and then it's solid to sit on. I've sat on it inside a tend and it's not damaged the groundsheet, but I'd feel more sure about not damaging the tent if I had something under them, even a folded newspaper stuck under the feet should do.
-
Not tried one, but these are supposed to be fantastic.

Not cheap though at £60

I have one of the Helinox chairs. They've had the yellow ones on offer in millets for ages. Normal price is around £90.
The helinox ones are better quality than the cheap Chinese ones but pays your money, take a chance.
They are quite comfy, but no arms or can holder and take some practice to get out of them without flexing the poles too much.
Get 4 rubber end caps for walking sticks to make a slightly larger footprint for the poles or they dig straight in.
-
I've had a cheap chinese knock helinox for 3/4years now. Always dutifully done its job! And has been pretty good quality. I did put some walking stick/rubber end bungs on the feet, because they were so small they kept sinking and getting lost
I think the newer rip-offs have them bungee corded on so they come out...
-
I use a Alite Mayfly . It sits lower than the Helinox, and works better in a tent because the weight is spread over a larger area. I've seen people use tennis balls over the end of the Helinox legs to stop it sinking into soft ground or trying to puncture your groundsheet.

I have gone for the MartinW solution as unlike the others I can, at least, stand on it to reach the top shelves in the kitchen.
-
Fine Choice Sir !
-
Noticed these are on sale this Sunday in Aldi
https://www.aldi.co.uk/easy-home-folding-step-stool/p/069218126971800
Similar to the one MartinW suggested, and only £4.
They have folding bucket and a folding wash basin too.. utter madness :dl_hyperhysteria:
-
I bought one of these last year for a 2 day bimble round Scotland last year, pi55ed down all week so I never got there.

Happened to walk into the new Blacks in Sheffield today, and they have the Helinox one still at £60.
Surprisingly comfortable for such a small chair, more comfortable than the Vango equivalent which looked exactly the same, and packs much smaller too.
Expensive but definitely one I would go for.
-
they don't get much lower than this

search angling chairs, there are some low level ones available without the accesories

I've had one of those Chinese helinox copies for about 3 years now, it's been everywhere and seen alot of use. Still works great and is super comfy. As said previous it does flex and is a low reclined kind of seat, but nothing on it has broken.
Mine was the 1st copy with super small feet. I bought some cheap rubber walking stick grips and put them on the feet.
The newer ones come with bungees that attach to the feet so you can't lose them.

I've just purchased this Vango and will test it out next week, looks well built sturdy, small, light and well reviewed, more comfortable for me as it has a high back.

I've used one of these for over a year now. It's been sat on countless times and is one of the best buy's I have made for my many camping trips. Love it!
-
After using the Vango tall chair I can say it was utter luxury, more like a deck chair I even fell asleep in it after a few beers :thumb: packs down and very lightweight; it's more comfortable than most sturdier camping chairs I have had the displeasure of sitting on
I liked it so much I have purchased the microlite table to go with it so I can put my beer bottle on it week after next as I am going back for a short hop to Saumur for more castles and sun (hopefully).
-
For the feet you could use motorcycle pucks for stands, can normally pick these up for free at a lot of the BSB meets.

These are in Aldi at the moment (July 2018), £17.99
