New 1050 owner
« on: January 05, 2024, 09:22:37 »
Hi all,
Thanks for the very useful information on this forum.  I'm a new rider - I got my CBT in September, passed my test in November and bought a 1050XT in December.  So not exactly a lot of riding experience!  I have been out three times so far.  Bring on Spring.
Cheers.

Hello & Welcome

I'm liking your positive mental attitude - CBT September, Test November and big bike in December  :auto-dirtbike:

Stay safe and keep learning  :thumb:

A big welcome to you and respect. As said already, please stay safe. The police in England, and they may do in Scotland, run courses in the summer, they will ride with you after a couple of hours in a classroom and after the ride they will tell you what you are doing wrong, we all do somethings that we could do better but on a big bike you can ride into danger faster than you know.

Just stay safe and I look forward to reading your posts when summer comes and you can ride your beautiful country.  :welcani: :bow-blue:

Welcome aboard.

The workshops The Doctor is talking about are called BikeSafe.

I passed my test in 1976 and have been riding pretty much ever since. I took part in the BikeSafe workshop early 2022 and found it absolutely amazing and well worth the £60 it cost. It is also worth getting hold of a copy of Motorcycle Roadcraft, this is the manual the Police base all their training on and it has loads of really useful and practical riding information.

You are in an amazing part of the world for riding, I hope to be back in the Highlands late spring / early summer, I love it up there.

Ride safe.
The older I get, the better I was.

Thanks all.
BikeSafe / further training is certainly on my radar.  I'm finding the big V Strom surprisingly easy to live with.  I learned on an SV650 so it feels familiar, although bigger and even more of that V twin grunt on tap.
Beautiful day here - once it warms up I might venture out..
