Peak Design Phone Holder and Vibration Issues
(1/1)
mjt57:
Recently, I installed a Peak Design phone holder onto the accessory bar of my 1050XT. It's a nice fit and easier to get the phone on and off than the Quadlock unit that it's replaced.
My PD unit is the wireless charging and vibration dampening one. However, when I checked to see how effective the vibration dampening is, I was concerned with how the screen with the camera app open was anything but optically stabilised.
Below is a link to the video that I shot of what the phone is doing when the engine is at idle. I haven't had the opportunity to test it on a ride just yet.
Just wondering who has also got this fitted and how is it going regarding camera vibes. I use the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Is the phone touching the Sat Nav below? Is your phone definitely OIS equipped?
Also to note, I found my Quadlock dampener (cough, china knockoff) poor at dampening when the phone was hung vertical like yours. It seems to work best horizontal (or slightly canted back towards you).

1. The phone clears the dash by a few millimetres. Not much, just enough to not touch it.
2. I presume that it has OIS. It's an iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Google Machine says that it has it.
As for its positioning, I can't say whether or not this is good. I've seen one example, a couple called Lavi and Ollie on YouTube who did a run around the planet on their 1050.
At one point they had the Peak Design mount slung under a Garmin Zumo. I'm speculating that it was fine as they never reported any issues with it that I know of.

An update of sorts. This past weekend I went on a 2 day trip. At the end of day 1 I noticed that the phone was down to 25% on the battery. This Peak Design (PD) unit is also a wireless charger and for some reason it stopped working.
Last night, after I got home I plonked the phone on the wireless charger but it didn't start charging. Hmm, has the phone's charging system been damaged after sitting in the PD unit? Anyway, I started researching it but came up with nothing related to vibration or other issues (I've never had a problem with the Quadlock system).
Anyway, one of the suggestions is to reboot the phone which I did. Wireless charging started working again.
I am mystified. Was it the PD, the hot day (30 degs at one point), something else?
