Another day out .... in the car.
(1/1)
Barbel Mick:
Back in May I posted about taking an old friend out for the day.
Yesterday was his birthday (71) & not only has he not recovered from his stroke back in January, he has now found out he has cancer. The third time! Lungs, prostate & now the lymph nodes in his groin.
Anyway, enough of that, he doesn't want sympathy, he just wants to get on with life, as best he can.
Deb & myself picked him up in the car & went to Bill Lomas Motorcycles in Clay Cross where they have a nice collection of classic 70's motorcycles, plus a few older ones, in a small shop/museum. But more importantly a lovely little café where a cracking breakfast is available.
After eating & a look around the bikes we headed a few hundred yards up the road to CMC Motorcycles to check out the 'modern' stuff & another coffee.
Good day out. :)
A few photos to prove it happened.
Ianmc:
+1 for the Bill Lomas Museum cafe,I go there a few times a year, and she makes REALLY nice coffee.
A lot of years ago,my son went to Bill Lomas’s house near Derby to repair his computer, which was in his office surrounded by pictures of Bill during his riding career,my son mentioned that his dad (me) would have liked to see him in action on the bike.So Bill gave my son one his photos and signed it to give to me.I still have it in a frame 25 years later.
Brockett:
Back in the mid sixties "The Motorcycle" magazine published a photo of Bill Lomas holding a Moto Guzzi V8 engine to show how light it was. A photo to remember although I was too young to have ever seen him race. Later, reading about the 1957 Guzzi V8 bikes with a full "dustbin" fairing reaching 180MPH I was even more impressed.
