New Ravetech GPS mount for 2017/18 DL1000
« on: September 05, 2017, 16:42:22 »
I recently received a new GPS mount from Ravetech for the 2018 DL1000 as a goodwill gesture, originally I'd bought the version designed for the 2014-2016 bike and my initial impression for this new product is great, it looks a lot sturdier but I won't know for sure how it'll handle vibration until I get a chance to take it for a test drive.

The issue with the earlier version is that it prevents you from being able to use the screens ratchet adjustment system without causing some damage to the plastic above the clocks as it catches both the metal rail and the central bolt head which sticks out from underneath the ram mount.

There is a lot less vibration on this version of the mount, I think the vibration that's left is completely down to the springs in the screens adjustment system.

How do you find the cable routing is holding out. It looks like it comes out of the same hole where the windscreen brackets are. Does it bind on the screen bracket when you adjust the screen position?

You're right, I removed the clocks and routed my power cable up between the clocks and headlight.

I can still use the screen adjustment without issues but I have my screen in its highest position all the time so I have no idea if frequent movement of the screen would cause future problems..

I used plenty of cable ties to hold down the power cable in as many places as possible so hopefully it shouldn't move but the only part I'm not happy with is the point where the cable leaves the clock surround, its fine but while riding it does move slightly because of the slack left in it so I don't stress the cable, part of me is tempted to drill a hole so I can add one last cable tie to make sure it stays out of the screen adjustment mechanism.

I'm tempted to order one, much cheaper than Givi etc. Do you find the screen is easy to see higher up. I have my gps on the bar mount and the sun often makes the screen unreadable.
I was down your way Thursday, then cut across to Snowdonia, 5c across the tops, cold but dry. Lunch at Abergele and home, just made it before the downpoor. 230 miles, first proper run of the season, bum ached  :groan:

I have a 395LM Garmin, the screen isn't the best in direct sunlight but for the most part I can't say I've had any issues seeing it.

I prefer having the Sat Nav high and behind the screen when possible because it means I don't need to use my neck to physically look down which also prevents any kind of peripheral vision on the road itself, being able to quickly reference what's on screen using just the eyes makes the Sat Nav far safer to use in my opinion.

If you fancy seeing my setup for yourself feel free to drop me a PM and we can work something out..
