First bike for 15 years ...
« on: October 28, 2008, 13:10:52 »
Hi All,

I pick up my new V-strom 650X on saturday .... hope the weather is like it is today, sunny and
clear   :)))

Its my first bike for 15 years.   Before that I had a string of 12 or so bikes, starting with a
Yamaha 50cc FS1E (anyone else learn on one of them?) and finishing with a GSX600.

Things certainly have changed since then .... no 250cc class to speak off, biker forums,
loads of gear choice etc.

If you see a black 650X pottering around Edinburgh or the borders, then it could be me ...

Good on you Ian. Hope the weather allows you to get some miles in - all gone a bit parky down here in the Grim Midlands.......

Picked the bike up at midday today.      It was a great day for my first ride ... sunny and no wind, but
roads never fully dried up all day.

115 miles done on first day ... Headed south down the A701 to Moffat.   Great road that!   Then headed
east along the A708 past St Mary's  Loch, before heading over the hill to Peebles and back to Edinburgh.
The A708 is also a good road.   wouldn't  recommend the hop over the hill though  ... I should have gone straight
on to Selkirk (there was some snow on the road at the top of the hill).

I love the riding position of the V-strom.   And the wee screen keeps the wind of the body very well.

Its hard to keep it to 5000 rpm for running in .... really got to keep an aye on the tacho!     Does everyone
stick to the recommended running-in procedure ... ?   I probably pushed it to 6k occasionally when overtaking.

Hangover permitting, I'll hopefully do a few more miles tomorrow .... maybe take a tootle round the other half
of the borders .... ;-)
