DL650 (2013) what tyres you using nowadays
« on: August 07, 2023, 19:48:24 »
Hello everyone

Don’t want to start a tyre thread, honest but what tyres are you mostly using on the 650.

I’m getting my bike back in a couple of weeks and I can remember what’s on there but I am sure that I will need to change them and I was just wondering what is the best around nowadays.

Road only I don’t do any off road

Cheers

Ian

The most popular but not cheapest are the Michelin Pilot Road 5s & 6s .

Others with chime in with thier prefered choice though.  :thumb:

Another one for the Pilot road 6 but expensive and my back tyre lasted 6500 miles. I've got a Angel GT arriving tomorrow, it's cheaper and I've read good things about the millage.

Just to confirm though, you can't go wrong with Pilot road 5/6 for grip. They stick like glue.  :thumb:

+1 on Michelin Road 5/6s.
I also used Dunlop Roadsmart 3s which were excellent and lasted 19,000 miles on the rear (stood up straight when it was replaced mind)

Metzeler Roadtec01 SE are the tyre of choice on my DL650.
My last 01 rear had done 16,000km before its early retirement to use the SE version and can’t wait to use the SE front when it becomes available in Australia.
Love the wet grip and security when on the edge.
MCN recently placed the Roadtec01 SE above the Michelin PR6 in a recent test.

I'm on my second set of Avon Spirit ST's.

The bike had some sort of Battlaxe's fitted when I bought it and I thought I'd made a mistake buying my first ADV / touring bike. I tried all sorts of fixes and scared myself silly for a couple of months before I realised the tyres had asymmetric wear, so in a blast of patriotism I went with the Avon's (from a local dealer and paid through the nose for them).

A touch over 12,000 solo touring miles later I have a second set (from a different dealer and at a much better price).

The older I get, the better I was.

Thanks everyone

I’ll check each recommendation out and price up a set, don’t look like it’s going to be cheap. Ha ha

All replies very much appreciated.

I recently put Continental Trail Attack 3s on mine and am really impressed with them. They're fantastic in the wet and dry. In fact I actually prefer them to the Pilot Road 4s and 5s that I had on my last bike. I've riden through plenty of proper Welsh rain and they didn't feel any different than in the dry. Totally confidence inspiring.

Well based on your kind recommendations I contacted my nice mobile tyre fitter, been using him for years and he quoted me to supply and fit:

Bridgestone BT023.               £283
Michelin Road 6.                    £356
Pirelli Angel GT.                     £290

So good range there. Blimey tyres gone up a bit in the last couple of years.

Cheers

Pirelli angel gt's are £200 at the moment from Demon Tweeks. Yes you've then got to pay for fitting but here that is only 20-30 quid a set.

Thanks

Just got Ride magazine, I felt the urge, usually don’t bother and they give a good recommendation to the Angels
