Is cheap an option??
« on: July 15, 2009, 23:02:04 »
Hi every one.

Just wondering if anything could be done to the stock cans to make them sound mean. I don't want to spend on after market cans to be honest so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,Chris

Open the throttle and watch the liitle pointy needle turn - that makes 'em sound fruity.

There's a wealth of information on the VSRI site:  http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,3478.0.html

Essentially there's two cheap mods you can make:

(1) Remove the rear plate on the exhaust and cut off the short 'pea-shooter' pipe that's on the end of the can, then replace the rear plate - this sets up turbulence in the outlet and adds a deeper, throbbing note to the bike.

(2) Remove the rear plate on the exhaust and then drill the can end with a few 1/4" holes - leave the rear plate off - this is effectively drilling out the baffle and will give slightly more power as well as making it sound louder.

Of course, if you get either of these wrong, or don't like the result, you've just screwed your exhaust.
Why waste time learning when ignorance is instantaneous?

C code. C code run. Run code run…please!

Search flea bay till you find some cheap ones.  Then keep the standard ones until you trade the bike.  That way if/when you dent the aftermatket ones  you'll still have some immaculate pipes for trade in and dealers really seem to like clean standard pipes!

Its worth the money for some aftermarket ones, they sound amazing and weigh about 10 kilos less.
