Hello from Wiltshire
« on: July 05, 2008, 12:30:22 »
Hi all,

Good to see a UK V Strom site.

I am Steve, live near Salisbury and have had DL's since 2003.  I moved on from sports bikes (Aprilia Mille was my last) to my first strom, a Blue K2 (fully loaded) which was a bit of a mixed bag.  It was lumpy, vastly undersprung and suffered from windblast.  It received a new clutch basket under warranty, I changed the springs Front and Back and added loads of bits (like Titanium Blue Scorpion Cans and a Zuk Gel seat).  It was OK but I found I wasn't riding it, so I sold it.

I went bikeless for a whole month! until I relented and bought a DL650.  This was great.  Good engine, better suspension and flickable but I missed the power, so ...... yes I bought another DL1000.

I now have a Black/Grey K7GT, bought from Crescent Suzuki and it is brill.  The engine is smooth and pulls fine, the 32 bit ECU is better than my old 16 bit and will pull from 2.5k revs no problem.  The spring rates are fine as well, something that Zuk has sorted by themselves.  So I am happy.

It has been kitted out with the Gel seat (get one if you can), GIVI screen, raked back alot with plastic spacers, GIVI crash bars (with added 2 stroke like vibes!) Baglux cover (had a bag for years!), mirror extenders from BANDITMANIA (cheap and recommended - both BM and the extenders!!!) and finally a home made mod to shift the blo0dy top box back so my missus can sit comfy on the back.

Would like to meet other strommers in the area.....

BTW - Can't get the idea of new cans out of my mind - best option thus far is two brothers Ally cans (look great) for £430 delivered.  Any ideas?

Cheers..................Steve AKA Stonehenge

Hello Steve.

That topbox mounting is a pain - don't understand why they didn't mount it further back.  You can't even get under the seat with the box in place, either.

I'd been looking at new cans, too, but I quite like the look with the stock heatshield and there's no obvious way to retain it once you change the can.

Hi,

Barnabas - I can't make Beaulieu tomorrow sorry.

The TopBox - I fixed a triangular plate to the rear edge of the rack mount using the existing holes for the rear lug and anti-rattle things.  The plate was off a cheap loudspeaker stand designed for small have speakers.  It was the small top plate.  My aim was to not drill many holes in the rack and moved the rear lug around 2 inches back.  In the end, it shifted 2 1/4 inches back, enough to attach a back rest to the box for max comfort.  BTW, the back rest off GIVI E36/E42's fit the nonfango boxes on the strom.  I will try to post a couple of pictures tomorrow.
