what tyres best to buy
« on: July 01, 2016, 20:30:57 »
how's it going fella's, quick question, I'm on a DL650, I'm looking for a tyre that'll give me best grip in wet & dry, plus a max mileage out of them too if possible.
any advise on what best to buy an where.

I'm on michelin pilot 4's, very good wet and dry, and last well, just don't get the trail version for the rear, get the road version, they last longer.

A few here use them, and all report back in a good light, I'm a sporty rider by nature, and they are up to the job.

They hold up well when loaded and two up, I have toured on them and can vouch for that.

Dunlop Roadsmart here. Avoid Roadsmart 2, my last rear lasted way less than 4k. The 3 is wearing much better.

Before any smart arse mentions it, yes they have plenty of grip on the back of recovery truck.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I had a pair of PR3's on before and absolutely loved them, total confidence in the tyre.

Now swapped to Anakee 3's on my Wee, and also absolutely love them!! They really seem to suit the look of the bike too!

If your worried about the wet, go for a PR3/4 the amount of sips those tyres have for moving water is a bit of a mental confidence boost

any bike shop near you , cotters , maddocks , the going rate fitted if you take off the wheels yourself is 280 that's what I paid in lee Honda cork , most tyres out there are better than 95% of the riders out there so they will all feel good its just once you get the feel for the bike its only then will certain profiles and grip start making any difference to how it feels for you , if you're not going to be scraping pegs than the metzler tourance (just make sure they're not the next or the exp type ) are very good value for money I think you can get a set fitted for in and around 220 ish

I see, might check cotters. don't know what the story is with the ones on the bike at the moment but there crap, good few times I've tried getting low on it (near enough to peg scraping) but felt the tyre kicking out a little on me, wasn't going hard either for it to do that. but mainly I just cruise so once I get a tyre that'll stick to the road good when I do get low on it plus long lasting in regards to mileage ill be a happy camper :D  because ill be doing allot of touring very soon so need something good.
ill look those different tyres that has been mentioned including the metzlers

thanks man

PR3's are Michelin Pilot Road 3's...

Many mileage and maximum grip, are impossible in the same mind. There is always the exact compromise  :bow-blue:

rosso lll  are supersports , they'd be fine on the dl but better suited for sv's or mid ranged 600 4's , if you want a bit more sporty tyre than the tourance (or any of those pretend semi off road tyres when the only time they go off road is when the wifes car is in the way and they have to cut through the grass with both legs sticking out like a set of helicopter legs) then the michelin pilot road 4 's or the metz 01's , I took a shot at the 01's when there wasn't really any proper real life reviews and honestly it was a good choice , but just as the last man said there - is it mileage or good grip you need , just don't forget our roads are more like the rough end of a cheese grater than the ( non EU  ) UK roads so what works there doesn't really give much to what will work here ,

I got Bridgetone Battlax bt 23. No issue or drift or anything nasty. I ride around bristol, London and France sometimes all conditions and 365 days a year.

Check the link:

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Bridgestone/Battlax-BT-023.htm

this webpage is really useful. The Michelin Pilot road 4 are goodo!

Just put some Anakee 2's on Glee L3 (after about 8k)
Turned in too quick for my liking, so dropped pressure slightly, much better
Took a while to get used to them, about 500 miles
Sometimes seems like I can feel the lumpiness of them...they are quite chunky

No better than the OEM Bridgestone's IMO, but they were cheaper than a new set of OEM

May try the Anakee 3's next time
