They list them as a scooter tyre. How odd.

I know, this is an older thread.  Just wanted to add my CAD0.02.

I picked up a pair of the Heidenau K60 Sport M+S for my DL650 for this past winter.  While I badly wanted the Silica version, they don't appear to have even close-to-acceptable sizes for the DL650.

I've done about 5000km on them so far, 3000km of that at well below zero.  In general, I've been very happy with their performance on salty and salty-wet -16c roads.  I've noted that they become hard-as-hockey-puck rubber at -20c, to the point of leaving black streaks on the pavement when you need to emergency brake.  :)

Has anyone managed to fit the Silica versions onto their V-Strom?  Did you go with the 100/90R19 front and 130/90R17 rears, or are more sizes available than are listed on the web site?

What about the other Silica winter Tyres available from Heidenau, like the K66 or K73's?  Anyone try them?

What about other winter tyre options?

Can anyone recommend a good online retailer to get a set of these tyres? my constant googling only seems to show up american retailers and ones in germany. I was hoping to find some for a decent price somewhere to get my order in asap

Not used them myself, but OPONEO seem to get mentioned a lot.

Oponeo is where I've had the last 8 or 9 sets for various bikes. Would highly recommend.

Oponeo is always my first, and usually only, stop for tyres. Get a price from there, see if it can be beaten on pair deals etc. elsewhere, then buy.

what do you make of this when I was inquiring about tyre fitting this was my emailed response?

"Hi Ben, I have looked into the Heidenau scout tyre and I have a supplier which sells them. The sizes you require are available but the load and speed rating is not rated high enough for the V strom so I would not recommend fitting them. If I can help you with anything else then please ask."

If it was a dealer then he was probably covering his back. If the load and speed ratings for the K60s don't meet the required spec. of the Vstrom then shouldn't recommend them, although they would probably be OK.

The load rating will be fine. But the speed rating may be lower than the top speed of the v-strom. Just keep it under 108mph and you'll be fine.
I had 2 sets and am very much considering them for the Varadero. She's a heavy girl but not much less than Josh's Super10.

Sorry to add to an old post, just to want to add my comments about these tyres.

I put them on the S10 which may have been a bit daft, however I really REALLY like them. They are a great tyre that perform well enough on the road - me and the mrs have scraped boots - and well enough off road to justify having them.

they do vibrate a little and hum in the corners a little, but overall I think they are brilliant.

And the best thing is - I have become around 9000 miles out of them on the S10 !!!!!!!!!!

At 135 quid a set from openeo, I have just ordered another set for the Wales meet :)

happy bunny!

I only got just over 5k out of the rear on the vara. Well it would have got maybe 6k but with Fat Rats at the end of next week and me working everyday up to it I thought it best to change and have new rubber for the weekend.

I opted for a Mitas E-07 again on the rear and keep the K60 on the front.
I tried this setup on the strom and it worked really well.

In all the time I had the K60 rear on I never touched a peg on the road.
After 30 mile scrub-in I went down the new bypass in Port Talbot and hit first the left then swinging the bike back over smacked the right peg into the deck.

to be honest the K60 is a better more stable touring tyre. But the Mitas doesn't square off as fast and has a more predictable feel into the corners, but does weave a little holding speed on the motorway.
I found exactly the same results on the strom in the 6k I put on the rear E-07. And after 6k the tyre still had 6mm from the original 13mm. But the bike died so I never got a total lifespan.

Think I'll be replacing the front with a E-07 when the K60 is done.

K60 is still a very good choice, the price is starting to creep up again though.
I may get a stockpile of E-07's during the winter when the prices are a little lower.
