I have a car tyre (and it's wheel) on my BMW brick.  :neen:

And the sidecar has one too  :thumb:

My old outfit had one on the front. Tank slappers at "Autobahn" speeds; not funny

Just came across this thread  lol BUT - is there anybody out there that remembers Avon SM (otherwise known as skid masters) 3.75 or 4.00 rear tyres? Or even worse, had to use them?? Bloody awful things! Thank God Mr Dunlop developed the TT100. SO - bearing in mind Avon SMs, the car tyre option looks purrty good.
As an aside - I read an article on the advances in technology with things like Traction control on motorcycles - the author reckoned it was a waste of money and was only developed to stop "youngsters" landing on their hoops every time they opened the throttle on a damp/greasy road! He then went on to explain that way back in the day. tyres, especially Avon SMs were useless BUT they did teach throttle control. - TRUE  :old:

Oh happy days... I remember Avon SMs well. I fell of several bikes using them. In those days there wasn't the choice of tyres we have today (or perhaps the confusion either?). You either had an Avon SM or a Dunlop K70 on the back and their equivalent ribbed tyres on the front. If you were really flash you could put an Avon GP on the back. It sounded fast and at least looked a bit bit more rounded so should corner a bit better, but in reality wasn't a lot better. The other options during the the late '60s were the new fangled Japanese tyres but these were even worse, especially in the wet. It was the coming of Dunlpo's TT100 and Avon's Roadrunner (this had it's own race series for a few years) that started to change things for the better.

Avon SMs are still available, my 55 Matchless has a 350 x 18 on the rear and a ribbed speedmaster on the front  and they work OK. :)

Yep, they sure are. I recently bought a couple for my sidecar outfit - brilliant for power slides.  :thumb:
