Dipped and main beam lights not working
« on: April 16, 2024, 14:48:34 »
Hi
I took my 2012 DL650 for MOT. Everything fine except for the above mentioned problem. The mechanic has investigated almost everything to no avail. Wiring seems fine, fuses not blowing and all contacts seem to be OK. Has anyone encountered a similar problem in the past? I initially thought it could be me disconnecting a switched live feed but that seems OK.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
T

There is a fairly easy to get to connector in the left fairing, that is a common culprit for furring up and causing headlight problems. If it isn't that, there is a less easy to get to connector(s) behind the Radiator. This is also a well documented weak point.

As Fat Rat says, plus the start button contacts.
A well known failure on that model too. The contacts that switch the lights off & back on when the starter button is pressed can burn out. You may be able to do a quick check (may not work though) before you open it up, by spraying contact cleaner into the little hole underneath the cluster.
If it is that, then fitting headlight relays will prevent it happening again.
