Title: Engine Oil level and motor vibration
Post by: Octave on July 17, 2019, 10:55:15
Hello all,  I have a 2018 DL250 at 2500 km that vibrates between 5k - 6k rpms and between 8500 and 9500 rpms. (other owners do not have this problem so I am not accepting my experience to be normal small engine vibration)
I am working through possible "causes" of vibration.

I am wondering if oil level could be a cause for vibration at confirmed, specific, repeatable rpms.
I noticed that the sight glass for oil level control shows the oil level to be within the high and low levels.  The level is slightly lower than the "center" of the sight glass.
I have been warned not to operate the engine over or under filled.  I am seeking feedback on if an oil level closer to the high level could have an effect on engine vibration.
What are you informed thoughts?
thanks.

Do you have engine bars?  I can't see how oil levels would be a factor.

No bars.  Engine vibrated before attaching bars.  Removed bars to prove to authorised mechanic the engine vibrated prior to attachment.

I asked this question because I read that dirty oil (and perhaps low oil levels ??) could be a source of vibration.

As long as the oil level is between the upper and lower levels everything should be fine . The vibrations you experience would not be caused by the oil.

Daft question but have you inspected the engine mounts?

According to A.M. bolts are torqued correctly.

I’ve just changed the oil in mine. It was just above the full line when I got it. Everything fine. I’ve filled it to the mid point, and it vibrates/runs a bit rougher, definitely. There’s something in this. Might add a touch more tomorrow, and see.
