Title: Insurance question.
Post by: Ianmc on October 14, 2021, 10:58:32
Morning team, hypothetical question here, if I parked my bike next to another bike in a car park, and a car reversed into the”other” bike and it was pushed into my bike causing damage to my bike, would I lose my no-claims bonus if I claimed for the repair to my bike from the car drivers insurance company ?

Don't know , but as your bike was damaged by the other bike hitting yours I'd have thought you would have to claim from the other bike's owner,

That's probably right.

Years ago, I was on the M25, we all came to a sudden halt, I was busy congratulating myself for being a safe distance from the car in front until the car behind me was struck from behind, hit me and pushed me into the car in front of me  :GRR:

The car I hit claimed against me, I claimed from the car who it me and him the one who hit him.

Thanks for the replies, but I am more interested in whether I would lose my no-claims discount on my next insurance renewal.

Your no claims bonus relates to claims against your own insurance (either by you or by a third party) so wouldn't be affected by you claiming against a third party (unless you have some weird no claims bonus - definitely worth reading your insurance small print). The others are correct - your claim is against the other motorcycle owner. Irrespective, you will have to declare it as an accident when it comes to renewal time, which will probably affect your premiums.

It all boils down to whether the insurance companies have an end policy to pin it all against: if the car driver is known and their insurers accept liability, then the chain should be fine for all with no fault claims being made & settled. One broken link & the no fault isn't settled then companies will come to an arrangement that likely ends up with a claim against your policy & resultant loss of NCD.

You have to declare insurance claims regardless of fault. Even if you recover all costs and it doesn't affect your NCB, it's likely to increase your premium as you have an increased risk of claiming for next 5 years.

So ncb is safe but not the premium. Suppose its repair costs against rise in insurance costs then, hypothetically speaking

Thanks again for the replies they were very helpful, it certainly gives us something to think about as the other bike also belongs to another mate.
