I am going to be investigated
« on: January 31, 2019, 20:40:28 »

I received a letter today from the TV Licensing people, good gravy, what a bunch of morons  :dl_smiley_banghead:

It was addressed to;
Present Occupier
The Motorhome
My full address
Valid Postcode

The letter said 'Your home is unlicensed' Get in touch or our investigation starts on the 13 February 2019   :dl_hyperhysteria:

Just for my amusement I phoned one of their bored stiff Call Centre people, they were in the UK which was a surprise. I gave them the reference on the letter and then asked what they want and why the were sending letters to a Motor Home.  They said they had picked up the address from Royal Mail. I don't understand says I, your system must be clever enough to see that the full (correct) address and Postcode on the letter is in fact licensed?

'Do you have a Motorhome sir'?  What bloody difference does that make says I, even if I do, it will be covered by the licence registered to this address!!!!

I was getting nowhere 'You will have to contact Royal Mail sir'   :icon_exclaim: Royal Mail haven't sent me a daft threatening letter, you have! 'I can't help you sir, this is a Royal mail issue'  NO IT ISN'T  :dl_smiley_banghead:

So, the long and short of it is the investigation team from Cardiff will be coming here  :eusa-doh:

Nowt to do wi' me.

Tv licensing are a weird lot. They constantly send letters to non existent addresses. E. G. one of my streets has a gap between number 7 and number 11. They keep sending threatening letters to number 9, because it doesn't have a tv licence. There is no number 9. My mate in Wallasey hasn't had a tv in years. They refuse to believe that anyone wouldn't have a telly, so he gets the threat letters. He has invited them round to scrutinise the house. They declined, but keep sending him reminders to buy a licence.

You'll probably get a letter which says "Are you going to be in on the 13th February?"  on the outside of the envelope. Sent to scare or shame evaders into jogging down the Post Office by the 12th.

As someone who doesn't have a TV or a licence, and hasn't had for 20 years; I am getting these letters on a regular basis they go straight into the bin. I 've never seen an enforcement officer yet.

Looks like you may need one if you ever have a telly on in the house and the motor home at the same time (I.e. leaving the kids at home when you go away in the motor home).
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

Its a motorhome/motor caravan, though. Not chalet, static, mobile home. Just like a car, but bigger. Much, much bigger in FR's case. I would reckon this seems more applicable. Away from home ( by a few feet) and not plugged in to the mains, or even plugged in, in which case it's covered by the house ticket.

There's loads of fake TV Licencing emails doing the rounds currently so I'm surprised that yours is kosher, even if it is to a fictitious viewer. Always threatening in tone, though, and they can't understand that some people don't have TVs.

From https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ129

Do I need a licence to watch TV away from home?

Your home TV Licence will usually cover you to watch live TV on any channel and BBC programmes on iPlayer on any device away from home.

However, if you’re away from home and plug one of these devices into the mains and use it to watch or record live TV programmes on any channel or device, or to download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer, you need to be covered by a separate TV Licence at that address (unless you’re in a vehicle or vessel like a train, car or boat). It’s the law.

FR, you obviously know you're covered. So should they. Have fun teasing them. RM, as far as I know, has no mechanism or remit for informing the authorities. I certainly have neither the time nor inclination to go peering through windows looking for tellys.
Did the Ratmobile come with a tv fitted? Tv sellers have to tell the authority when they sell one. But, again, they should then realise your home ticket covers it. Tossers.

Hi
Simple answer to the TV Licence. Don’t watch or record live TV or use iPlayer. Your quality of life will improve and you will no longer be paying for BBC propaganda. You can still watch DVDs, streaming and on demand services.
And if you get a visit, don’t speak to them and certainly don’t let them in your property.

Goodness me, is that the time?

Yeah, but he can watch as much as he wants. House or van. He's got one.

Yes the Ratmobile came fitted with Televisions, two (one above the Jacuzzi)  :smirk:

We also have a Static Caravan here which has its own licence (so that's two TV licenses at this address). The system is so inept, the amount of licensing money they must spend paying agencies to chase non-existent addresses and fully licensed addresses must be a significant percentage. They should be forced to smarten up and then reflect the efficiencies in the licence fee.  :dl_soapbox:
