Looking at either buying the Suzuki Adventure kit inc centre stand and crash bars top box or getting a Givvi OBKN42A Trekker Outback Top Box - 42 Litre top box.
The Suzuki adaptor  990DO-31J01-060 seems to have reinforcing dog leg bars running back to front.  the Givvi only recommends GIVI SRA3112 Aluminium Top Box Rack which is basically a plate that sits on top of the aluminium coloured rear rack.
Can anyone tell me if the reinforcing bars are just over engineering or is the rack fairly unstable and not able to hold a top box without reinforcement?
Have ordered my V Strom 1000 and looking what I need or require to add to finished bike. Cheers Tonybro

Looking at Givi website, their plate and their SRA3112 does have struts which fasten to the end of the seat subframe. If the 1000 is like my 2012 650, the chunky rear grabhandle/carrier is made of a strong plastic. It's held on by two bolts at the front of the grabs and two more halfway along the carrier. The top boxes then overhang the carrier, which can lead to some wobbling, sometimes amplified by the rear latch bouncing on its "toblerone" fitting. This is probably why Suzuki and Givi are both supplying bracing struts to fit under the load platform. I am part way rhrough cobbling some together for my 650. The big silvery rack looks chunky, but at the end of the day it's a plastic cantilever.... or springboard, if you want to be harsh.

Many thanks for that. As I don't have my bike yet second guessing and would prefer to check instead of buying only to find not suitable. Appreciate your time, Tonybro

Mine came as two parts ( the 650 uses the same parts ), the fitting kit with the bracing arms and a monokey plate. Make sure if you order that you get both the kit and rack.  :thumb:

Givi shows two options: the metal plate version SRA3112 or the black plastic option
SR3112.
Appears to be a difference of £40 + between them. Is the metal plate version recommended and offers a better security or is it purely down to the products used and both do the job? Cheers Tonybro

I've used a plastic plate for 7 years and a 52L top box without issues. This includes being fully (over) loaded & a tent strapped on top of the box, with my wife using it as a backrest for a trip to South of France...

Plastic plate here also, may have been a bit over the weight limit once or twice
